Just saw a Bauer projector on a market a few days ago.

It stated it was Dual sound. Is that the same as stereo or is it some sort of dubbing device? The projector only had one speaker output.

I think the model was a Bauer T179 Dual sound (but not sure).

Hi Michael could be dual gauge sound 8mm and super 8, looking at the number I would think so.
If Heinz is about he will know.
I`d expect it could be one of the ones with no front sprocket so best avoided really unless really cheap, the belts are usually going as well.
Good luck if you give it a try.
Best Mark.

I have a Bauer T240 which has 1 speaker output, eg mono.
I've just looked at the Manual to see if both tracks can be got out seperately they can not.
Also the mic. and phono inputs are single.

I would therefor treat your models info. carefully and read as if like mine dual means both tracks out together and mono. Unless you can be sure you can get seperate outputs to say feed a seperate stero amp.

Thanks guys.

On the projector side it had some knobs where you could switch between track one and two when recording (I guess), or maybe when playing through the build in amplifier.

I found a picture HERE.

I could maybe pick it up for £30-50, but I'm maybe much better of fixing the switches in my Chinon. I did buy some, but still need to put them in.

Hello,

all BAUER Duoplay super8mm sound movie projectors are working after the same principle: You can play either track one OR track two, track one AND track two together or track one and two via Duoplay. Duoplay means that each track controls the volume of the other track, as far as sound is recorded. This means if you have music on track one and commentary on track two you can lower the volume of music playback as soon as commentary is played. This depends on the position, the lever is put on. Of course, this is no stereo playback.

I do not recommend the small BAUER machines, because they do not have the front sprocket reel (as Mark has already told) and film transportation is mainly done by the claw and the back sprocket reel. This is very problematic if the film has some splices. In fact the samll BAUER machines are not real BAUER machines. They were made in Italy by SILMA and had the BAUER logo printed on them.

Best Wishes
