Afternoon everyone,

Wonder if i can pick some ones brains with the best way of starting up a film cinema club. I will be showing all formats of film but of course it will have an edge towards art in the cinema in any shape or form. I have the equipement but need to find out the best way of starting of this new venture. I plan to start a small following my membership and hopefully grow from there. Any help in the right direction would be great.

You can start by writing a webpage, hosted by your server (usually included with your ISP monthly bill). Treat the webpage as your newspaper add, then promote the idea throughout work and family contacts.

Remain consistent, keep up the advertising even if nobody comes or they don't come enough as you would like them too. Introduce this idea to the baby boomers, those who might remember the format before video; and inturn they would bring their children who would think it was so cool.

And on the subject of children, DO NOT allow minors to see the shows without the parent there with them. You are NOT a sitting service!

Observe all ratings set by your country ratings board. And, create some of your own policies to manage your club.

You must allow free admission due to the home use only licenses of these film prints, but in exchange ask all your guests to bring munchies to share. Have drinks and snacks available for those who might not be able to bring something to share, just incase. And for those who can't bring snacks, maybe charge a one time once per year fee of $10.00 (USD) [or Sterling £5.00) to help cover your costs for bulbs and splice tapes, etc.

Thank you for some great advice and help in going forward with my ideas. First of all what's the best way of starting your own web page. My film format will be 8mm 16mm & 35mm.

First, you need an HTML editor. There are a few of these available for free download. I've tried quite a few, but Coffeecup from here works as well as any.

Get a basic html guide such as Dave Raggett on HTML.

Have a good practice. Use your browser to view the results. Take a look at the code (source) from other people's websites such as mine.

Finally, you need File Transfer Software. I like to keep mine separate from the Editor, and use FTP Explorer.

Your ISP will tell you where to upload the website to, and which host name to use.

BTW, we have two cine clubs up here: one is for classic movies, mainly 16 mm, and the other is for movie-makers (about 50% cine) in 8, 16 and v***o.
