As you probaly saw we are having a bit of bother with asbestos, now also a very nasty sort in the garage thats dusting etc. Gets worse as we look.
It set me wondering if it was ever added to stripe adhesive or stripe itself as its properties would be ideal, heat and friction resisting etc.
As we have been looking to identify ours it seems in the early 80`s and back over it was added to allsorts of stuff, you wouldn`t believe it.
Anyway does anyone have any ideas.
Best Mark.

I would think you can probably go on sniffing your stripe, Mark [Big Grin]

I dont think it was used in the makeup of stripe etc or really anything to do with film.

Sleep easy, Kev.

.... but film contains gelatine made of animals such as from porks or cows.
Perhaps in the worst case you will get sympthomes of mad cow disease [Big Grin]

If Andreas' comments about animal gel being used in the manufacture of 8mm is correct how do vegetarian/vegan collectors view this?

Mal,

Most vegans view their films with a projector [Big Grin]

As for the risks of Mad Cow disease you would need to eat a whole reel of Animal Farm to be at any risk. Fortunately, only cows under 30 months old have been used in the makingof gelatin.

Of greater concern is the risk f transferring Vinegar Syndrome to humans resulting in long term liver damage from being pickeld-or is that just a Friday night in the pub problem??
