Hi guys,

I found E.T. full feature and Close Encounters on sale on ebay Italy, any info on these prints, I donīt know Italian so I canīt make out what the seller says he sent me an email saying

"ciaoil film ha dominante marrone non fastidiosa ed e' sonoro magnetico e' una copia molto buona la spedizione in chile e' 50 € a presto "

I figure out that they must be quite red, and I think he says shipping to chile costs 50 euro, quite exepnsive for my taste.

If these are Italian prints, i'm betting that they are not scope, and, if my past association with Italian prints are any barometer of what these are, they are probably with "specks" from bad film labs as well as other defects.

I'll hold out for a certian scope Close Encounters, thank you very much.

Hi,
I bought a few time ago "Sword in the stone" feature (4x 600ft) in Italia and the color was faded [Frown] so I sold it.
And I bought this week "20.000 leagues under the sea" (7x600ft) because the seller told me that the color was not too bad. Hope so... [Roll Eyes]

I’m pretty sure ET was flat, Andreas.

Have the colours held up on the three prints you mentioned? The Italian prints seem to be fading faster than the German ones.

I have a super 8 feature length print of ET. I also ran it in theaters back in 1982. I can tell you from experience the move is NOT scope. I think the problem is that not too many of us truelly understand the difference. That is, at times some of us think or assume that, if a print has those black bars on the top and bottom, that the print must have been scope in theaters. Whereas, this is definately not the case all the time. I am trying to make a point, and not to flame others that do not understand the difference. What I would like to see in the future is common terms, that is cinemascope would be squeezed and a proper lens is required to show it correctly; "letterboxed" refers to the black bars masking on the top and bottom of the screen for whatever the reason is the masking has been done; and "flat" meaning anybody can run it with any projector. It just gets to confusing to question the masking or hear the term "adapted scope.".

I don't know if my print of ET came from Italy, but the mastering quality is very poor to fair condition. The print suggests that it came from a 16mm dupe copy rather than a 35mm release print. When I found it though, it only cost me $50.00 bucks and luckily was in full english sound. Appears to be complete with no edits as far as I can tell. The Italians might not make great copies of American movies, but always remember they can't screw up the pasta!

Just my 2 cents worth on the subject.

"Scontro di Titani"

1. For anyone interested who doesn't know based on the photos from above, the bottom 3 images exactly, translation is CLASH OF THE TITANS. The very bottom photo of Harry Hamlin if I am correct.

2. I have a super 8 print in english sound available for sale @ $75.00 if anyone wants it. Reel 1 has sound sync issues and is alittle bouncy, reels 2 & 3 much better. Color is good. Contact me please to arrange the purchase. In your email, please put "Titans" in the subject line.
