Saturdatnight i was watch my new movie The rescuers Down under
everything was fine the movie the picture everything.
Today i was watching the movie with a friend of mine,but there was
one problem the black scratch on the right side,the projector was this year
to times away for repair and now this.
Everything was doing it the rollers the sound no dust clean i'am very
sad of it,why me?
I will sell this damn projector because of all the problems,evryone said
the Elmo ST1200 HD is veru kind for the movies,but i don't believe in it
anymore.

I had an Elmo gouge a film up and in the end it turned out to be not the machine's fault at all. A tiny little fleck of what I think was tape (-the kind that holds the end to the reel) had lodged in the path and it wore a line in the emulsion. (Shame: it was a nice reel...)

I am very paranoid about this tape now!

Maybe the place to start is to grab a flashlight (-a "torch" in British!), lay the machine on it's back to put the film path at a highly visible orientation and go over the film path as if you are looking for molecules!

If you are reasonably sure this scratch was caused this time around, the defect is before the gate, last time, after the gate. The way to be sure is project scrap film. If the line is visible on first projection: before the gate, second: after...

(-at least this gives you a clue where to look.)

Jeroen dont forget that new prints need to be well lubed BEFORE any projection,its recomended to lube all new films because polyester tend to dry when its new and is more sensible to scracht,polyester is a fantastic material for store and show films but tends to scracht easily when its new.

Jeroen, have you checked the Metal roller where the film first goes in, these can wear and as the film is pulled in there is tension from the front arm, the film can pull in to the area on the roller where there is wear, bending in over the 8mm width if you will.

So run the small metal first roller around and look for wear in to its surface.
Thats the first place to look.

Another one can be the green plastic around the 2nd ( lower ) sprocket where it sits up against the sprocket,( the green bit you press down to unthread there ) it wears where the flim pulls through under that 2nd sprocket, then you get scratching on that side you have shown in the picture, though its the further away side on the green plastic as you look in at it.
That can be sorted easily.

PS if you go find you want to leave 8mm Disney DVDs even look superb on even a current budget video projector, the Blue Rays are crazy like 35mm.
