Hi all,

I am sorry if my title sounds exaggerating, but because the print I am going to talk is from the era of 8mm films, not the recent CHC or Derann prints which are always good.

It is about Elvis "Viva Las Vegas" released 3 x 400" by Ken Films rightly in the end of the 8mm era.

The screen shots are made by Dan Lail of this of forum when he was offering this for sale 3 months ago at Ebay. (I have had a permission from Dan to put these pictures here):

Seeeeexxxxy....! [Cool]

 -

 -

What are you starring at Elvis....! Naughty boy [Embarrassed]

 -

Look at to those pictures, although it is on LPP (according to the listing), the print does not have bluish LPP tone. It is so natural and the skin color is skin...!

Since getting this listing, I was so obsessed to get it on my hands. But to locate this title in English market is rather hard due to the decline of market at the time it was released.

The only available source is from German market and it was discussed previously here:

Cincinnati Kid and Viva Las Vegas discussion

But then the main obstacle is that many German Ebayers are rarely willing to ship overseas.

Of course, I can have my friend living in Germany to take the shipment and then forward it to me. But there is a second obstacle, i.e it is rather rare too German Ebayers take paypal until finally someone in Germany listed this particular title with avoiding the two obstacles above.

So overall, this would be my highest spending for my hobby (honestly, I am really careful to spend money for this hobby, as when returning to Indonesia I have to deal with a lot of things) but I will be happy to get this film on my hands.

Just my last thing, I am crossing my fingers that this print will have the same quality as Dan's print above.

I will let you know when it arrives.

cheers,

Simply fantastic Winbert. Also hope the one you are getting will be as nice looking as the one those pictures were taken from.

I'm jealous Winbert, this is one of my favourite Elvis films - I did get to see this on the big screen in a reissue showing in Toronto a number of years back.
Can't wait to hear how the quality is on your print.
Cheers
Terry

Hi Terry,

I do hope so... and if so I will bring this to your summer time neighborhood film season [Wink]

But I don't think play the whole three reels (in German) will keep the audience to sit [Big Grin]

cheers,

Hi Winbert
I hope to do the outdoor theatre at the end of June or early July this year - haven't decided yet but I'll let you know.

German is my second language so having Viva Las vegas in German would actually be kind of cool!! But I do have to think of the rest of the audince. (bring it anyway)

Keep us informed when it arrives!

Cheers
Terry

Hi friends,

I finally got my films although it took 1 month to arrive. Anyway that is not really the problem.

The bad news is that the film has totally faded.

Here is some example and I try to make the same screen shot scenes as Dan's film above.

not that SEXY!... :-(

It is so dissapointing. This is not about my camera or projector cannot show the good result, but the film itself has lost the colors.

How dissapointed I am now ! [Mad]

Im sorry it hasn't turned out the way you wanted Winbert.

But i dont believe those shots are from the same film, the Ken version has always been on the soft side like in your pictures and known to have some fading by now, like most of the Elivs releses by Ken Films.

Even the 16mm version is not as sharp as the top pictures.
Those look like the remastered pan and scan DVD imo

I hope you didnt pay too much for it [Frown]

What projector did you use to show your film and what was the light wattage,as some faded films can look better with brighter light, but it wont fix the fading much.

I am using Elmo GS-800 with 100w 12v bulb.

No Barrie, I can guarantee 100% that the top pictures taken from 8mm. As I mentioned above, the original pictures were taken by one of our high reputable member.

It was taken during his listing on Ebay and the print is now with another people.

You have to beleive that some Ken releases were printed on Agfa or LPP and I got some of them ( The Rose is on AGFA ... Oh no she is again!)

"Time Machine" is another 3 x 400 from Ken (or UFA in Germany) that is known to have pictures like those on the most top.

I paid quite a lot for this, and it is dissapointing!

Cheers,

Just to revive this thread, i have been lucky enough to have just purchased this 3 x 400ft version of Viva Las Vegas, as i understand it has no fade and is a Viacom print. If anyone can throw any light onto this release from Viacom i would be grateful, i know its a stunning print as i have made the purchase from a well know dealer who has tested it. I will be taking delivery later in the month & very much looking forward to it. [Wink]

Sorry to learn of your understandable disappointment, Winbert! The difference is all too evident.

I, too, was somewhat disappointed last night as I watched Part One of the Elvis '68 Comeback Special, when I found that the previously vivid colours were similarly affected. However, I soon greatly appreciated seeing it again to see Elvis enjoying playing live, and once more sounding great. (Otherwise, I'm afraid don't really like his films after King Creole.)

Anyway, commiserations, and all the best for your continued search for a better version of Viva!
