I'm a new member and my Super-8,8mm collecting roots go back to the late 1970's. I was searching for information about cleaning and splicing regular 8mm movies and came across this site.I was a subscriber to Steve Osbourne's Coming Attractions back in the late 1980's.

My peak collecting years were between 1986-1989. Media Arts Associates and Dave Thomas Films were the two dealers who I dealt with the most. I know that Dave is still on eBay but I seem to recall that Roger Williams closed shop some years ago.

I sold my film collection to Dave Thomas in 1995.My collection at that point consisted of 400' & 200' sound,200' B & W silents with a few regular 8mm's in the batch. My projector was an older Eumig Dual 8 (Super & Single 8)whose model number I can no longer recall. The sound died on that machine and I wound up donating it once my film collection was sold.

I also had an ancient Revere 8mm projector that was donated as well.Currently I still have my late father's 8mm movies that were shot in the 1950's & 1960's.In 2002 I bought a near mint Kodak Brownie projector to show them on since that was what my father owned back in the day and brought back good memories.

Does anyone have a copy of Ken Films last catalog they'd be interested in selling? It was (if I recall correctly)the one with the brown cover that had Alien,Star Wars, etc. on the cover.
Thanks and looking forward to being a member of the site.

Cheers,
Douglas

Thanks for the welcome fellows. Shorty,I remember your columns in Coming Attractions and it's good to see you here.Having been gone from the hobby for 20 years it's good to see that interest in 8 & 16mm is alive and well.

Cheers all,
Douglas [Smile]

Hi, Douglas,

There are still a lot of projectors and films around. The members here can direct you to most any equipment you might need.

My Dad too bought a Brownie camera and projector back in the day. I used to love to watch the home movies and see the illustrations on the commercial cartoons. [Eek!]

Welcome Douglas,

You will be happy to know that Steve is still publishing his magazine, though now it is called "The Reel Image."

Regards.

Doug, you're not far from Jersey - You should try to make the Wildwood NJ show October 2nd and 3rd, courtesy of John Black on this forum also - It is really a true film show - Doug Meltzer was there, he brought a nice projector also - Lots to buy and trade for - Try it

Hey Douglas,

Wish I knew you when you were still in Galveston county. Did you know Phil Johnson in Texas City? He's a film dealer and collector. He is now living in Paris Texas.

Thanks for the welcome David! Guy,by the time I became aware of Phil I was already out of the hobby.I seem to recall buying some standard 8mm reels from him for my late father's home movies in 2002.Yesterday I made the plunge and won a small batch of old Ken Films 200' digests on eBay.

I do have concerns regarding color fading on the digests released so many years ago,as some of the films in my collection sold in 1995 were already going that way. Any thoughts on this topic?

Cheers,
Douglas [Smile]

P.S.
Shorty,it would be great to attend a convention like the one you're describing. Money and time will tell!

Well I received my small batch of Ken Films today but was in error regarding their length. They turned out to be all 50'which is alright as each one contained their original catalog inserts! One was still cello-wrapped which was really cool.
