Copal is a budget projector and not a good one in my opinion. If you are looking for a budget projector, go for Chinon.

cheers,

Hi Paul,
You havent specified Sound or Silent projectors but I believe most of the Copals are reasonably good machines.

The Dual 8mm Silent CP 77 is the equivelant of a Sankyo 2000H & if you find a good clean example of these then they are quite suitable to use for home movie watching or as a Telecine machine when transferring home movies to DVD.

The Copal Super 8mm Sound projectors are one of the few Super 8mm Sound with variable speed by external reostat. The CP 01 & second model CP 02 both have 100w Halogen Lamp & a good lens.
These also have unique Strobascopic Speed verification for perfect Sound Speed setting. With an inbuilt Timing Light to set the running speed exactly to 24fps, 18fps or whatever speed you want. No other 8mm projector has this Stobascopic Speed setting feature.

So if you want a projector with variable speed & Super 8mm Sound, then there is not a lot of choices available.
The Eumig 800 series Sounds don't have the speed flexibility of the Copals because their are limited between 18 & 24fps. The Copal Sounds have a much greater speed range & so they are more suitable as a telecine machine than a Eumig.

So in my opinion the Copal are quite good projectors & provided it has been well serviced, will produce a good result.
The Chinons are also good projectors & there is a very large range of them to choose from.

Hi Frank

Many thanks. I have seen a copal on ebay cp77 I think. From what I have seen they look well engineered, and I was aware of the variable speed. I do like Sankyo . The ones I have seen have a rock solid image on screen.

Regards

Paul
