If you mean that you have a silent movie and want to record the sound, then it will be extremely expensive.

First, you need to send to a company for magnetic stripe (shipping v.v + striping)

Second, you need to source the sound material (certain cost)

Third, you send film + sound source to someone for recording (shipping v.v + service fee)

Overall it will be more than $70 for 200' film.

If your film is available in sound version, it is better to find the sound version. Most 200' films with sound is around $10-$20.

Do you mean recording a feature film ONTO super-8 from, say, video?
Technically, it would be very difficult and expensive (if anyone would even want to try doing it); it would look bad and it would be illegal due to copyright issues.

Super-8 doesn't work that way. You want prints of films in Super-8, you buy them.

If I misunderstood your intentions, please clarify what you have in mind so I may give you better advice.

If you can skip from copyright issue, let me give you a rough description about capturing 2 hours movie onto super 8mm.

For getting stock film (blank tape, you may say) you need to pay $17/cart.... which last for 2.5 minutes, and it is silent.

You want to capture 20 minutes film, then you need 8 carts, i.e $17 x 8 = $136.

After capturing the pictures, you bring that to lab and pay $12 for a cart, meaning $96.

Include postage v.v = $15.

Total $247.

What do you think.....? And that is only 20 minutes. If you want to get 2 hours film then you need to have $1482.

And it is still silent.... you need to add sound. See my post above for how to add sound to your film.

It is Austin, therefor many of us only stick to what available in the market, especially those old films.

You can still get new fresh feature film (2 hours) from Derann or CHC but that will be $450/title.

Before you ask why Derann can sell $450/feature for a 2 hours film compared to my $1482 calculation above, because they use negative films which it can be re-printed.

My calculation above is using reversal film stock which is one of a kind, if you are trying to do that.

Austin - it's up to you, but you might like to consider starting with used abridged versions, if you haven't already done so, before more expensive features. Plenty of monster movies on offer in this form.

By the way, we need new blood coming into the hobby like yourself, so I hope you get plenty of encouragement here!
