I have discussed in another post the problems that I have experienced with the Elmo lamp socket. I was showing some films last night, and was simply amazed at the increase in brightness obtained just by changing the lamp socket to a basic GX4.3 which grips the lamp pins much more firmly than that slide-in Elmo socket.
Over time, all lamp sockets corrode and the contacts weaken, resulting in a big voltage drop across the contact. You may still be getting light, but nowhere near what it should be because the bulb is not getting the full voltage. So if your picture is dimmer than you think it should be, put in a new socket and you will be amazed at the boost in screen illumination!
