Sad to hear of this great man passing,as with countries all over the world, we too in New Zealand will miss him.

I have managed to collect a couple of his Standard8 and Super8 films.....
so far I have

Super 8 50ft THUNDERBIRDS — TRAPPED IN THE SKY S1 E1 B/W SILENT 1965
Standard 8 10mins/150ft JOE 90 JOE THE PILOT S1/EP1 B/W 1968

These are not as common to collect as I thought, these two I got from U.K. and some others appear on e-bay etc but not often
and 16mm complete episodes like Space 1999 command a good price......

I presume alot were released but many wore-out or got damaged from multiple viewings and maybe even children screening them, thus a shortened life if not careful.

What do other collectors have?

Cheers from New Zealand

i myself have "Planet 46" Doug, and various other 200's plus some
Stingray episodes, all std 8mm, which I must say are absolutely
stunning B/W prints, that leave some S/8 sadly lacking.

I have a Fireball XL5 Dixons release on Pyramid #P/200/7. It's a 200' standard 8 sound called "Flight To Danger".

"As Lieutenant Ninety goes into orbit around the Moon, his capsule catches fire and explodes. Floating helplessly in uncharted space, his chances of getting his Astronaut's wings look bleak! Danger every second."

My Dad often popped a Gerry Anderson into film shows, I recall Fireball XL5 fondly. But because the films were silent I never heard Zoonie's witty asides (Full powwerr!) until much later when I saw these on TV

One I have is UFO episode 'Identified' 3x400ft English sound released by Technofilm. Exposed was also released. I think there were some more too Released in both 3x400 & 1x400

Another title was 'The Protectors' this was 2x400 I think?

Opening credits were action packed. Production values top too. In the opening credits to 'The Protectors' lookout for the yellow helicopter, then watch 'From Russia With Love'

Don't forget the big screen films Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun AKA Doppelganger.

Sadly all the greats are leaving us. This week alone Jack Klugman, Charles Durning, and now Gerry Anderson.

I once read that a Thunderbirds film was released in 200 foot super 8 Sound. Has anyone got one of these or ever seen one for sale? They must be incredibly rare.

Derann were to release a 600ft colour sound edition of the Thunderbirds movies some years ago, unfortunatly it was pulled because of copyright etc. One of there catalouges did have the ad in but we dont have this catalouge any longer.
That would have been a great release. [Frown]

I remember, my first contact with "Thunderbirds are go" was as I was about 5 or 6 years old and lived in turkey (between 1970-1972). It was a comic and I talked with my uncle which space ship is the better one and my favorite was "Zerro X".
Later around 1976 I watched the movie here in germany in the cinema.
The most impressive think of Garry Anderson films is the cool 60īs style design. As I watched the movie "Journey to the far side of the Sun" first time, the design of the spaceships and cars reminds me to "Thunderbirds are go" and thatīs true, the special effects was made by Garry Anderson.
In regards of this topic: I have 3 full lenght episodes of "UFO", since I get this from my father in law, I didnīt watch them yet. I run only one reel of one episode and what a pity, most of the color is gone, but the print is more sharp then some 16mm prints.

I've just got and screened Supercar - Flight of fancy on standard / regular 8, in black and white and silent.Oddly it didn't have captions and was made that way as it has no soundstripe.Running time of approx 10 mins.
Great stuff [Smile]
