Hi, I am trying to work out if it is me or machine.
I have played two reels of film that my late father did and they have a sound stripe, well I think it is , it is a brown bronze colour stripe on opposite side of film to side perforated holes are. I am not hearing any sounds, although I think speak is okay on projector as I can hear noise from it when I turn teh volume up. For Sound to play through a projector, like the Eumig S912 I have, I assume teh sound stripe has to be face down like the film itself, the shiny side down.
I have read the manual, the machine has 3 settings for sound, a slide button that says 1 , 1 & 2, 2.

Which one should it be on, although I have tried all 3.

Any suggestions welcome.

Ta

Phil

The sound stripe on Super 8 film must face the lamp when running. The sound on your Eumig will reproduce from position 1.

If the projector has not been used for quite a while the switches often oxidise and do not make good contact. I suggest you press the red Record button in and out several times. This may help. But do not do this if the projector is laced with film.

It would be a good idea to run the projector whilst you are doing the "pressing". Another suggestion is to operate all the switches several times to ensure that all electrical contacts are OK.

Some sound films have only one sound strip, other have a second one (called the balance strip). This second strip was first intended to maintain the same thickness but with the evolution of the miniaturistation it became possible to record sound on this second strip. So some projectors allow to read both strips. The numbers 1,2 and 1+2 are related with this : 1 main strip only, 2 balance strip only and of course 1+2 both strips at the same time.

How are you getting on with the projector, Phil?

Not all stripes have sound.
