Greetings fellow film enthusiasts!

Is there a proper way of applying lubricate to all the gears?
I have two products one is "Super Lube" (synthetic grease) & the other one is called Phonolube which say's it's for gear lubrication.
Is one better than the other or are they basically both the same?
What is the best method to apply this with perhaps a small brush or use a q-tip, your fingertip etc.?

Thank you,
RS [Confused]

Roger, it matters none really how it is applied, just ensure it is inbetween the teeth of the gears, don't apply excessive amounts as it will all just land beneath the said gears, probably where you don't want grease to land eg electronic components and the likes.

Too much grease on bearings or gears is as bad as none. I always use a six inch steel rule (1/4 inch wide) to apply my grease or a syringe for shutter cams. Avoid using Q tips (Cotton Buds) as this may result in cotton wool ending up in your gear teeth. Wrong material altogether to use as an applicator, apart from cleaning sound heads with Isopropyl alcohol.

Andrew,

I found a small stiff brush from my EIKI projector and applied the grease with that and it worked really well because I put a little dab on the tip of the brush and then just brushed it on all the gears. So no mess or dripping. [Smile]
