I just purchased a Sankyo 2000H to view 8mm and Super 8 family films and transfer them to a digital format. The projector was not feeding the film in worth beans and jamming etc. I watched 3 YouTube videos showing the 2000h and saw that the loopsetter button/lever was not moving downward when the projector was put in forward. I took enough of the projector apart to find a bent rod not allowing the hooked end to make contact with the loopsetter mechanicals. I fixed this and the loopsetter now works properly (I think).

The machine was still not feeding well after this and jamming mainly around the gate. I took the entire front side apart last night and cleaned the gate assembly with isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush out of the machine and cleaned everything else I could reach. I tried the projector again this morning and it seems to feed the film fairly decently in the "F" forward position (I sometimes have to push the loopsetter/feed roller to help) but as soon as I move the switch to F w/lamp on it stops feeding. I've taken the cover off and opened the pressure plate with no film in to observe and I see that there is a side guide that moves inward in the gate when the switch is set to Forward w/lamp but this side guide stays out in just the Forward position. I'm assuming this is putting additional drag on the film causing it to stop feeding. I need to make a decision if this is repairable or should I send it back to the seller for a refund.

The projector has already chewed up a few films from the 60's and 70's that are repairable but I don't want to do any more damage.

I apologize for the long post but I wanted to give as much background info as possible.

Welcome to the forum Jim and cudos to the repairs you have done on this machine so far. However, my recommendation is to send it back to the seller. There are plenty working models of this projector out there. You do not want to be trusting this projector with your precious family films. I have done a lot of telecine work over the past 4 years and the Sankyo 2000H is a good choice for a variable speed projector, however you don't want to worry about if the projector will hiccup during a transfer. There's too many other variables to think about...you will see.

Thanks Janice for the reply. I had read your comments on the Sankyo's and that's one reason I purchased the projector. I must have got a lemon. I have a Honeywell-Elmo with a fogged/fungus lens and that's the reason I'm shopping for a new projector.

Jim...try cleaning your Elmo lens. I've done this with pretty good results. Most likely the fungus will eventually return...but it's been about a year so far and my Elmo FP lens is still clear.
