If it's on LPP Nigel, I'd say it's rare. All the ones I've seen including my own print are Viacom prints.

They can still be excellent for colour but I've had others that are fading and one from a forum member that was totally red.

I've managed to replace this now with a far better print but it's still a Viacom print.

Does it have original boxes Nigel?

Let me know if you're thinking of selling it assuming it's in top condition and is on low fade stock.

Thanks Nigel,I've never seen this film advertised for sale in any of the Derann catalogues I have or have ever seen.

The ones I have only show Viva Las Vegas on LPP from the late 80's early 90's era of catalogues.

Let me know please Nigel if the film carries the DFS logo or has anything that gives it away on the leaders or tails.

I think the only official Derann Elvis was Tickle Me but it has long been supposed that they reprinted GI Blues Blue Hawaii and King Creole amongst others as their was a bigdemand and I believe if you spoke to the right person a new feature print could be obtained right upto the 1990s because I remember an Elvis collector saying he had bought new prints from them and they were GI and Blue Hawaii I think the story was they were newly discovered Viacom prints found gathering dust in Dudley but if memory serves me right some had the cheek of an old Derann logo on them. They weren't spliced on they were printed that way. For obvious reasons they were not publicised in the normal manner but if the print is LPP it is their work but they were doing it right back to the hire catalogue days. Just adds another mystery element to the collecting world [Cool] [Cool] If you type Elvis in the search box of this forum you will see similar threads back to 2003

Thanks Mike.it will be very interesting indeed to see Nigels screenshots for this print just to see whether it really is a Derann LPP or just another Viacom print that Derann found brand new and called it their own then.

They did officially release Viva Las Vegas as a 3x 400ft abridged feature. Most are quite dark but the colour is excellent.

Hi Andrew

I remember Viva Las Vegas some prints were better than others. Did Derann also release the 400 digest of Elvis the Movie with Kurt Russell? Early Derann prints were pretty shoddy but I remember being at a convention either Blackpool or Belfast and Mike Dimmock had feature prints stashed under the dealer table. One was Return of The Jedi and another two were Elvis GI Blues and Blue Hawaii amongst others and I remember him saying they were better prints than they had previously issued . Personally, I preferred the concert or television material of Elvis.

Derann did indeed have the rights to "Blue Hawaii" - "G.I. Blues" - "Paradise Hawaiian Style" - "King Creole" (B/W) and in the same deal was "Last Train From Gunhill". Derek once told me that he thought that his colour prints were pretty crappy (owing to masters given) but sold shed loads of them, this was the mid 1970's, they were Elvis, and they were F/L (a real novelty for the time on super 8). The best of the Elvis features really was "King Creole" being on B/W stock. Out of the colour prints, I thought his best one was "G.I. Blues". They come up occasionally but none of the Derann releases would be on LPP, as I don't think he ever re-printed them in the 80's or 90's. He did find some brand new Viacom prints in the early 90's, these had a Spanish track, and for some reason he had difficulty re-recording them into English, I remember buying my print of "Paradise Hawaiian Style" for about £35 and then sent it to David Locke who re-recorded it into English for me (I still have it to this day, colour has held up well!).

Thanks Barry, that clears that one up then. So no LPP prints then as suspected.

Thanks for information Mike.

I recently sold a stunning Derann LPP re-print of the 3x400' "Viva Las Vegas", far better quality than the original Ken prints which most likely been on the dreaded SP stock.

Pity it didn't make your "exclusives" section Barry. I've been searching for years for a good one of these.

Andrew,

It went to an Elvis nut who had been pestering me for years for Elvis films of any kind, so it was an easy sale, if I get another one in I'll think of you, best I can say!

So here we have it, a Derann print that must surely have been one of those Viacom new prints that Derann got hold of and decided to badge as their own

Mike's assessment of this Derann release clearly. In this case,is bang on.
