This is a great gathering of collectors world-wide in Columbus Ohio - I urge everyone to attend next May - Shorty

It sounds interesting!

How would you compare/contrast it to CineSea?

Don't get me wrong, I had a great time (wish I could have stayed longer, but had to leave Sat morning for my 25th high school reunion that night), and will definitely attend next year (how can I not - I live two hours away!).

Cinevent has kind of a more industrial feel to it - lots and lots of dealer tables. But a LOT of the show is pictures, posters, DVD's, etc.

CineSea (from what I gathered, last one was my first) is all about film. CineSea is a lot more intimate and friendly.

This was my second Cinevent, and what made it a lot more enjoyable than last year was the fact that I ran into several people I'd met at CineSea (Shorty, Gary Sloan, Gary Crawford, Geoffrey Curtis and Lori, Lou and Lou Jr). Also got to hang out with Steve Osborne, and met Bill Davis for the first time.

I spent a lot of time with Geoffrey (he teaches me so much every time I see him!), and the Friday night viewing in Geoffrey's screening room was almost like a mini CineSea.

So while Cinevent is bigger and flashier (and a lot closer), I would have to say I liked CineSea a lot better.

I've always wanted to meet Steve Osborne!

He attended CineSea #5, that one where my son won the school Science Fair and then went to the county Science Fair, which was held at the Lab I work at the same weekend as CineSea...

(-So I had to MISS CineSea!)

You're a Dad, I'm sure you understand!

Cinevent and Cinesea are totally different animals. Both are great at what they want to be. Cinevent is huge and boasts tons of dealers and screenings of films , including silent era films with live music.... There are authors of various film related books there doing book signings....a rich amount of film history is there in the dealers' room ...
Cinesea is only about film...16mm, 8mm and any other gauge. it is a place to buy, swap, watch and enjoy films of all types. It is a small gathering of like minded friends. totally different from any other convention or meeting that I'm aware of...AND totally enjoyable.

So: more like Cinefest, then?

I think if I ever start one of these, I'll call it "MovieCon" or "Sprocketeria": surely they don't all have to be "CineSomething-or-other"!
