The 16th CineSea Film Collectors Gathering will take place October 13 - 15 in Wildwood, NJ and for the first time we'll have 35mm prints joining their smaller gauge brethren for the Saturday night screening!

Terry Bange & Dave Baker, film collectors for over 50 years, have started the Ohio Film Collector Exchange and they will be bringing a custom-made 35mm portable projector, a system put together especially for CineSea. Thank you, Gentlemen!
Since Dave & Terry also deal in Super 8mm, 16mm & 35mm, they'll be bringing a number of shorts, trailers & cartoons to add to the mix on Saturday. I know Dave will be posting here soon about his new film company.

CineSea, started by John Black & Shorty Caruso back in 2009, is completely dedicated to film. The weekend is spent watching, buying, selling & trading film and film equipment. When we're not watching film, we're talking about film!

For those who have never attended, please take a look at Claus's photo essay about CineSea 15.

The October 13th Friday night feature will soon be chosen....if you're considering joining us and have a 16mm or Super 8mm print you'd like to show, there will soon be a thread where you can nominate your title and then we'll have an online survey to pick the winner.

If you have film or equipment to sell, 6 foot dealer tables are available for $20. You can rent as many as you like. Lou Franchetti and his son will be there with stacks of 8mm and 16mm. To reserve a table you can email/PM myself or Lou.

The Saturday show starts at 10 AM and many, many projectors will be running non-stop and many, many films will trade hands right up to the group dinner. Upon our return we start our Saturday night screenings which in the past have run as late (early?) as 2 AM.

Please make your reservations soon at:

The Ocean Holiday Resort
6501 Ocean Avenue
Wildwood Crest, NJ 08260
609-729-2900 (mention "Film Show" to receive special rate of $65.00 per room)
Reserve early to get Oceanfront rooms with private balconies!

This may have been asked and answered already, but...

For past CineSea attendees: If you had to choose only one CineSea to attend in a calendar year--the Spring event or the Fall event, which one would you pick and why?

Or is this one of life's unanswerable questions.... [Smile]
Thanks for your thoughts,
Greg

The differences aren't huge ones.

In Spring the weather is usually cool but warmer than it was a month ago, it the Fall the weather is usually cool, but warmer then it will be a month from now. The operative word here is "cool" (usually).

There are certain dates when Wildwood really wakes up or really shuts down. We've been there on either sides of those dates a couple of times and that makes a bigger difference in what's going on in town than which season we're in. Both times are low season, and Wildwood is pretty laid back. I've been there in high season and the place is very, very active. You want a small car with a handle on the roof so you can carry it inside with you: much easier than trying to park it!

As far as CineSea itself? Pretty much the same. I've been there about 12 times and I have a lot of memories. I'm pretty hard pressed to be sure if they were in the Spring or the Fall. The events are the same and so is the schedule.

-one thing I particularly like about the Spring one though, it's nice to get there after being cooped up in the house all winter!

We've had the same hotel room a bunch of times (maybe ten), and been there on opening and closing weekends too. It's kind of like having an apartment and just leaving it vacant for six months!

Greg,

As Steve said, the gathering itself is the same on either end. During CineSea 15 (which took place on April 28th) the amusement park rides at Mariner’s Pier were running that weekend on a limited schedule. Unfortunately the park will not be open during this get together.
Luckily, our restaurants of choice for the group dinner and various breakfast & take out spots are there just waiting for us!

Is this still going on? Come on, I have a new VHS video player. You just load the plastic cartridge in the machine and watch the movie. So easy. Video tape is the future.

I found a VHS collector's forum recently.

The discussion was very similar to our own!

I have a couple of shelves full any time one of 'em wants to drop by.

Yes,

Thanks, Graham!

I've been looking for that one a couple of weeks now!

Our screenings are a very cooperative business: the machines, the audio system, the screen and the films all might belong to different people, but it all comes together every time!

Does anyone happen to have a Goldfinger and/or James Bond trailer that they can bring with them to CineSea?

I don't have the Goldfinger trailer but I do have the Super 8 feature. If you want to see the feature at Cinesea, maybe I might submit it in the Friday night movie vote. I also have some faded Roger Moore Bond trailers like Moonraker and a few others.

Posted by David C. Lucidi (Member # 4020) on September 27, 2017, 02:20 AM:

I don't have any Goldfinger trailers.....but I do have an IB Tech print of Goldfinger!! (Complete with the original '003' Ft. Knox bomb countdown sequence only ever seen in the UK release in 1964!).
 -

As for trailers, I have them for the following Bond films (all Roger Moore era), alas they are all faded to some degree:

-Live & Let Die (30 sec. I think)
-Moonraker (30 sec. I think)
-The Spy who Loved Me (four of them 30 sec., one that is 1 min).

I can bring any/all if needed, just let me know!

(PS: Jason, I'd love to see how this looks on Super 8 compared to 16mm [Smile]

Posted by Jason Smith (Member # 5055) on September 27, 2017, 04:46 AM:

David, maybe I'll bring my first reel of Goldfinger so you can see it in person. It's the Derann release. Unfortunately when you enlarge the image for an 80 inch screen, it doesn't look that great. I would love to see what the IB tech looks like.

I was going to bring some Bond Trailers for Tammy but all of mine are faded. I think Tammy might want to use yours.

I have the original 35mm IB Tech trailers of Dr. No, Diamonds are forever (scope) and You only live twice (scope), plus From Russia with love in low fade.
Unfortunately they are in Italian and I will not be at Cinesea, but glad to share this information [Big Grin]

David - any trailers with Sean Connery in them? That would be great!

I spoke earlier today with Dave Baker and unfortunately we'll have to wait till CineSea 17 to show 35mm. Terry & Dave were having two essential components for their portable system made by a Florida company, and due to the hurricane knocking the power out there for over nine days, the system won't be ready for CineSea 16 next week.
The good news is that Dave & Terry will still be coming to Wildwood with Super 8mm & 16mm to show and they'll talk about the Ohio Film Collector Exchange along with what we can look forward to the next time around.
