For those who fix a GS-1200

Can someone tell me how to remove the housing over the VU meter and Volume controls.

I have a problem with the auto release lever roller in regards to autoload release.

The GS 1200 is Version 2.

Nature of problem:

In forward mode, the roller is dropping to low, and there is hi-risk of film being scratched on the green plastic as the film exits the machine.

So I need to go in and adjust the spring or bracket that holds this roller in question. If I can do this myself it would save lots of money compared to sending it out to a tech.

Any help is greatly appreciated. With thanks.

Chip, the power supply cover is held on by three screws. Two are accessed from the interior wall of the chassis, one is up next to the take up motor in the top right hand corner of the chassis (viewed from the back), and the other is down in the bottom right hand corner of the chassis (viewed from the back).
The third screw is external, on the bottom of the machine right underneath the area of the power switch.
I would also recommend that you download or purchase the GS1200 maintainance manual which shows exactly how everything is taken apart.

So the procedure is as follows:
1. Remove the back cover and unplug the speaker cable
2. Remove the hinged lamp cover and the four wedge shaped knobs,
3. Remove all the aluminum knobs on the four power supply volume and treble/bass controls.
4. Remove the big L-shaped green film guide

Now you are ready to remove the cover of the power supply:
USE MAGNETIC TOOLS!!!!:
1. Remove the screw at the top right and bottom right corner of the chassis wall as viewed from the back of the chassis wall. Be careful, the top right screw and washer will want to fly over to the take up motor.

2. Now go the front side of the machine and remove the one remaining screw located on the bottom of the machine by the main power switch.

3. The cover will now pull off and you will have to reach in and disconnect the plug for the VU meters as you pull the cover off.

You now have total access to the power supply. If you need to you can easily remove the power supply by removing the 4 bolts that mount it to the chassis, and disconnecting the wire harness plug which connects up to the sound head area.

While you have it apart I would recommend replacing the threading release microswitch (activated by the swinging arm and roller in the film channel). Radio Shack has the exact replacement switches. You will need to bond a small piece of rubber onto the microswitch to keep the roller in the film guide pushed forward (trial and error) This will become clear once you have the power supply cover off.
