Hello, I have two GS1200s, superb machines. But Ive noticed that one of them has the following fault, and your kind advice is welcome. All functions work, fwd, play, rev, rewind but, the top feed sprocket is not turning??? Ive not looked into the back , so before I do, your thoughts please. Cheers

This should be geared directly into the rest of the transport mechanism. I'm guessing you'll find the gear for it broken or maybe the screw that holds everything on that shaft is loose and the gear doesn't mesh with its mates anymore. Then again if the screw was loose the gear might not be able to turn the sprocket anyway.

...and also make sure to blow it out with compressed air . I once had a couple pieces of broken film in the top sprocket area and it prevented the turning. I used the compressed air and cleaned it free. I didn't see the pieces, they were hidden good and stuck well...

Yes I had a piece of film jammed in there once as well on an ST-180E! First thing I would do would be to take off the back cover to see if the motor for the front arm is working. If it is then check the gears attached to the arm. If that is working then you have to check the inside of the front arm, make sure the belt is good, check out the gears as well. The small gears on the GS can look fine but a small crack will cause the machine to not work properly so get out that magnifying glass!
Good luck!

With regard to Mathew's comment, note should taken that compressed air cylinders have a propellant comprised of Propane/Isopropanol/Butane.
Take great care when spraying this anywhere.
Possibly a "squeezy" blower brush would be a better idea.

Sorry to say Mark but I intend to agree with Steve it does sound like a broken gear [Frown] ....keep us all posted as to what you find.

I will point out the built in speaker cable is one pain in the ass to reconnect when the rear cover is put back on. If you have never taken a back cover off of the GS 1200 then be ready for this.

It's a brown colored cable that plugs in to the main board directly under the main blower off the motor.

Good luck repairing the machine. Your problem is not one that I have experienced yet! It should be repairable and by all means get it done.

Maurice makes a very good point!
I have found that if i hold the can any way other than vertical, it can indeed spray propellant. Thanx indeed for that observation Maurice!
Take care if you do decide to use the air...small short puffs, vertical...or squeezy brush as suggested.

OK guys, took the back off and the motor that drives the feed sprocket, claw and shutter is dead, no movement at all. Have checked the fuse board, all OK. Your advice please. Thank you

One thing that does come to mind, is to check is that your ESS switch has to be in the normal position "centre". I would give it a wiggle when fwd in pressed... [Smile]

Hello all. Checked the ESS switch, pushed to left and the top sprocket, claw and motor worked. BUT, turned the lamp on and noted heavy flicker, thought must be the wrong speed, nope was on 24fps, switching back and forth between 18 and 24fps makes no diference. Appears to be running around 14/16fps. No amount of switching or adjusting the speed pan pot makes any change. Help please. Thanks

If you are not able to switch between speeds it could be your speed motor board gone bad. I had that happen on one of my Xenons. It was the opposite though.. it only ran at like 26fps and could not go any slower. I replaced the module and it was all well. I am sure Bill Parsons might be able to even repair the motor board as I sent mine to Kev since I didn't need it and he found the problem. Hopefully that is it. The cost of my new board was around $65 purchased from Leon a few years back.

Thank you, I thouight Wittner in Germany stocked new complete motor boards? I could just swap out maybe. Is there a repair service in the UK l could just send the old board to perhaps? Can you advise leons contact details, or Bill Parsons??? thank you all.

Since you are in the UK you should send Bill an email. He is very, very good at projector repair and he has a pretty good bedside manner too. [Smile]
His email is: bill (@) bparsons97.plus.com
I coded his email so he wouldn't get Spam. He wont like Spam unless he's Hawaiian.
Removal of the speed board is pretty simple so you may be able to just send him the board and have him check that out. It's small too. Smaller than a pack of cigarettes.
On 2nd thought- why don't you get the speed board from the good machine and put it in the bad machine? That way you would know for sure if that is the problem and then if it is, you can just order a new board.

Thanks Alan, will do on both contact Bill but try the good speed board first. Cheers
