This is the thread to share your 8mm scan results, as a link to videos online.

Some great footage Mike and a very nice transfer. Thanks for starting this thread. Like many ... DIY transferring of home movies is how I got interested in film and projectors.

Since you said this thread could include any variety of film scanners ... I'm hoping my MovieStuff scanners qualify.

Here is a transfer I did of a memorable family party we had in 1954. My Mom, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and my brother and I all jammed into a small one bedroom apartment living room dancing up a storm. What hams [Smile]

It got so hot inside that the walls started sweating [Smile]

Only my mom and brother are still with us, but having this footage reminds me of how much fun we all had together.

Among my scanning results I often find Regular8 holds it's colour so much better than Super8.

Very proud of my nephew Kevin in his Ark Royal T shirt.
This Super8 has kept it colour very well.

Reflecta 720
This is an extremely short test film taken about circa 1974, it forms part of a much larger film.
The film was extracted from the outputted MP4 and then edited using discreet flame. I transposed a timewarp on it so as to correct the speed.
The film wasn't cleaned at all and judging by other sections of the film, I may have expose incorrect (large bluring white parts on another section).

Back in the ‘70s, some people and even small organizations used S8 as professional material. The results can indeed be pretty good. For example, I purchased this 120m roll off eBay (for some 28euros + shipping):

It’s a film, shot in 197x, of a Steam engine 24 083, which was built in 1938 and operated on the Hildesheim - Loburg route, in Germany.

Recently scanned on my brand new second Somikon. (I found out it’s not possible to properly support both Std/Regular8 and S8 with one Somikon only. This is why I now have separate Somikons for the two formats. This way scanned S8 material doesn’t wobble horizontally. Wobbling can’t be avoided with manually widened film gates to allow for the uneven sliting of any Double material, including all kinds of Std/Reg8 footage.)

Thanks for posting the links for this steam locomotive movie - beautiful! Loved seeing these old girls, complete with their 'elephant ears'.

The only subject matter in movies that I enjoy more than seeing classic/antique cars are trains, especially steam locomotives. While I don't currently have an 8mm movie projector, being able to watch and possibly digitize some of these old movies could possibly nudge me into owning a good projector one day.
