Hello!
A few weeks ago I bought a Kodak Ektasound Moviedeck 265 sound 8mm/Super 8 projector at goodwill for $5. When I bought it the light bulb was burned out but when I ran my only sound film through it it played the audio perfectly. At the beginning of september I got 2 bulbs for it iff eBay and everything was working 100% including the sound. Last night and came home from shopping and I picked up 2 films (an 8mm heckle and jeckle terrytoon cartoon and a super 8 snippet of the film "Born Free".) I played those 2 through and they played fine, but then I went to play my sound film reel (super 8 sound Wizard Duel from Disney's Sword in the Stone in Spanish) and the sound would not play. I have tried to find the manual and the service manual for this projector online and I can't find it. When I hook up a pair of headphones to the project I can faintly hear the audio out of the left headphone. So I don't think it is the speaker. My best guess is that the head that plays the audio became dirty. I would clean the head but I can't find it anywhere in the mechanism. Does anyone have any idea of what went wrong or where the audio play head is?

Hi Zack and welcome to the forum. If you PM me your email address I can send you the user manual for the Kodak Supermatic Sound 20 projector which is almost identical to the 265 model. I know this because I have both models. I also can send you a repair manual. However I don't recall any references to the sound heads...but it at least gives you directions for getting the case off and access to the internals.

Something that has worked on my other projectors with low volume is to check the sound output jack. This can get corroded after years of non-use and reduce the sound volume. Just take the earphone jack and push it in and out of the socket a few times to see if that helps.

Perhaps someone with more audio experience can chime in hear with thoughts on the sound level issue.

I tried the headphone jack thing and it is very slightly louder, I can still barely hear it and I can only get this result with headphones.

Also, what can I use to clean the lenses? Can I use a microfiber cloth or a q-tip or is there anything special I need to get?

There are lens cleaning tissues...but I just use the clothes that I clean my classes with and a lens cleaner. Any soft lint-free cloth should be fine.
