Any suggestions for refurbishing a MINT Elmo 912/s editor? Everthing works great except the capstain motor for the sound drive. It just doesn’t turn, but if you manually rotate the belt all is good there. Just no motor action.
Thanks for any help on a very obscure problem!

Lol! I'm trying to solve the opposite. The 25-year-old belt is slipping, and I can't figure out a way to stretch the replacement over the pulleys without disassembling the whole thing.

David, I'm wondering how you're accessing it. I finally figured out what to do with mine. So by opening up the back cover to gain access to the insides, I've eventually come up with a way to complete the Belt Change From Hades - the rather inaccessible one from the capstan flywheel to the small pulley. Make sure THAT one isn't slipping or severed. What a trick it was to mount the new belt, so let me know if you need help.
The other one is easily accessed from the front by simply pulling the lower cover off. Just to the right of the middle is a brass pulley attached to the motor, and the belt is completely severed at the moment between that and the drive pulley to the right.
If you power it on and turn the master switch to "Auto," you'll be able to see if the motor is at least turning the brass pulley when the front cover is off.

Alas, the motor doesn't turn at all...or humm or anything. I ultimately found another unit and bought that...and the capstain motor and take-up work perfectly.

David , does the editor have a fuse? If it does then that could be it! Or it could be the motor? If you don't hear a buzz or hum!. I worked on a few of these machines. They do have problems! Parts are scarce!
