I am new to the forum.. Can anyone tell me how to open the viewer and change the Lamp of the VERNON 808 DUAL Deluxe 8 mm & Super 8 Movie EDITOR & VIEWER

Welcome, Glenn!

There is a ventilated black plastic box on the front side of the editor above the film path and below the screen. Gently pull it away from the body of the editor.

There is a cylindrical cover over the bulb. Pull that off.

-the bulb is underneath. (I think you have to remove a tiny bracket with a little Phillips head screw to release the bulb: It's been a while...)

About 20 years ago I nearly went blind editing a film for a Christmas showing on my old editor only to find one of these under the tree when it was all done!

Too bad so many editors are sold without the instruction manual. It makes the simplest things appear difficult, like adjusting the framing on some of them just by pulling the little knob out [Smile]

The interesting thing I find with these is without all the vibration that goes on in a projector, the bulbs last a lot longer. This actually isn't for the better!

As the old bulbs linger, more and more of the filament boils off and condenses on the envelope, and it gradually turns black.

Meanwhile the picture slowly dims, too slowly to even notice. Down to absolutely ridiculous levels before you do something about it.

There was this guy I worked with years ago. Every Friday night his office-mates moved his cubicle wall inward a half inch. He was practically sitting on top of his desk before he figured it out! (Something like that...)

It would be better if the bulb would just blow and get replaced.
