He would have to do a lot more in his description and pictures to sell it to me. He also has a NOS lamp, also too much at £450, surely:

This is for sure, Steven.
Wittner sell lamps for GS Xenon at a very lowest price (more or less £ 275).

To a certain extent I agree with what you guys say about the lamp. What we shouldn't forget however is that the original Toshiba lamp is no longer available. Most of the replacements are made by Superior Quartz in the US and I have to say that although this lamp is very good the Toshiba is slightly better where brightness is concerned. I have both so have been able to make comparisons.
Given that the one sold by Wittners is £275 then maybe £350 would have been a better price for an original unused lamp. Maybe the seller would accept that lower price as his auction is a "Make Best Offer" auction.

Kev.

Interesting suggestion, Kevin. Thanks for telling us about the slight difference between the two lamps. I must admit I did not know about that.
Ciao [Wink] !

You can get the Superior lamp for about $200 (£125) directly from superior. £275 is way too much to pay, even for a Toshiba lamp.

Any link, Steven? If possible, of course. Thanks.

I think the product number is SX-2502 for the super 8 lamp (but it's been a while, so be sure to check).

You can call them and talk to Denny Losco, Jr as well.

Steven, how are you?
I received a reply to my enquiry today to have an idea about the actual lamp cost, shipping to Italy included.
Thanks so much for you precious help.
Ciao.

Hi Gian,
You're Welcome -- glad to be of help!

I had that clone made a number of years ago - I borrowed a Toshiba lamp from Ian O'Reilly and sent it to Denny. It's definitely good to support Superior so that they will keep making the lamps we all need...

Hi Steven. They were happy in receiving my enquiry.
Just another question: is the second link you have posted (the one about the specific lamp we were discussing about) updated?

Denny (I suppose it was him) asked me to give him as much details as possible about it. So I mail him that pdf file. I'm now waiting for a more specific reply, estimated delivery date and shipping cost included.

Once more, I must say they were really kind indeed. So, I want to thank you once again for your great help.
Ciao.

Is that 'S' for Stabile, so [Big Grin] ?

Posted by Ugo Grassi (Member # 139) on January 18, 2010, 03:32 PM:

No Flavio, I am not that man. I bought the spare lamp, not the projector too. In this time I have to refurbish/check/remanufacture too much projectors.
I have: two GS xenon for sale (when I'll complete the check up); one halogen for sale (when I'll complete the check up); and I'm working to a remanufacturing machine.
Too much stuff...

About the Xenon now sold on ebay I sent to the seller this mail:
*******************************
Hello xxxx,
I hope you will receive my bid for xxx£ for the lamp.
About your auctions I have some suggests.
I know very well the Elmo items. I have a lot of super8 projectors and spare parts. I have already two or three genuine Toshiba xenon lamps.
I bought the last one from a guy in USA (cineforte), and the price was a lot less the money I want to pay for your lamp.
I think my bid is a good price (good for you).
About the xenon projector, I'm not interested, but there are many guys interested! give a look into the 8mm forum (search it by google: "8mm forum"). But you have to be ready to ship the machine. Don't worry: if you use a double packing the machine will arrive without damages. Without the "ship option" you'll loose a lot of money.
Bye
Ugo

For this reason I hope the buyer is among us.

Gian, yes the "S" stands for Stabile but... like a TURTLE, too slow, so someone else won it!

Ugo, I know you are not the winner, I know... after three days spending to convince the seller to ship it, he changed, without any advise, the auction description and [Eek!] ... well, really happy to be still with my great and unbeatable PCOM! [Wink]

Ugo, lucky me you are here. Taking the advantage of this thread, could you share for me a couple things about re painting GS-1200. As you may have known, I purchased the ugliest GS-1200 (v.3) in the world.

My questions is:

1. What is the correct color for the original GS-1200 body (if you can say name and color code/cat# that will be great)

2. If I want to re-paint the whole body, do I need to remove completely (with sand-paper) the original color?

3. How to save all the panel indicators/writings when I spray the body?

4. Will paint oven technique (usually used for car body painting) make any better?

thanks,

To find the right color isn't easy.
Until one year ago I used an acrilic spay color, but this kind of paint isn't totally reliable (too much fragile).
Now I'm using a semiprofessional paint, but it needs a compressor and a "spray gun".
That's the brand:
http://www.vipvernici.it/v_IT_prodotti.phtml
This is a metal paint. It's has just a bit more metal inside then the genuine elmo paint, but the result is very good.
To find the right "color tone" needs many test. The elmo projectors have a lot of different greys. The ealier series are a bit darker the latest.
So I use a metal grey base and by some drops of black paint I try to achieve the right color.

About your ugly gs, I don't know what's the best way (I saw the photos). I think you have to remove the old paint, but this by this you will loose the indicators.
when the original paint is not in a very bad state, I paint over; to save the white indicators I put over them a thin layer of grease by a thin brush. When the paint is dry, the part over the grease "pops away"...

Hi Ugo,
The two xenon and one halogen GS machines you have are without mods? Could one be for a re-manufacture and paint job? Have you decided how much modification you intend for the 're-manufactured' idea?

Posted by Ugo Grassi (Member # 139) on January 19, 2010, 10:10 AM:

The Xenon machines are still in "Elmo factory state".
The cosmetic conditions of both are very good, but the first needs to be disassembled. The power supply was in "short circuit". I fixed the problem when I got the machine, but I want to give a look in the inner parts of the machine to be sure there are not other problems.
For both a two blades shutter is ready, like new capacitors for the recording feature. Of course I'll modify some parts of the loading channel to avoid scratches to the films. One of that xenon is already sold. The other one no, because until to day I had two xenon for sale was a "secret" [Wink]
The halogen machine is a latest series. One of my friend wants it...
About the remanufactured machine, the job is still, because my real job does not give time for the hobby.
Anyway my idea is to change every electrolitic capacitors (in the main board and in the pre); to remove every potentiometer to clean or to change it; to mount new claw and heads.
About the motors I want to change the brushes. If necessary I'll change the main motor.
Winbert, I gave a look to the photos of your ugly GS. I think will be impossible to save the serigraphies...You have to clean the metal by a sand paper, but to clean the "dirty" parts only is impossible. To obtain a smooth surface you have to remove the whole old paint.
If you are ready to wait for many months, I may repaint the lids for you...

Thanks Ugo,

The machine is in Indonesia, while I am now in Canada. I can only enjoy it through the series of photo taken by my brother... [Big Grin]

If I need to sand-paper completely the original paint then I have to think if there is such way to put the writing back into the machine after re-paint it.

At this time what I can think is to take the zoom photo of that writing, print it and cut the writing in small pieces. It will be glued back to the machine after completely getting re-painted. I will give a finish with transparent colour (spraying), so it is like to laminate the paint and protect the print paper from getting peeled of. What do you think?

cheers,

The 're-manufacture' Elmo is the one for me, Ugo. Even if it is months ahead. I love the idea that you are to strip it right down in electronic and mechanical components. To be as near new as possible and with improvements also. Two-bladed shutter, etc. And a custom paint-job to mark it out as something different? I don't think I need a xenon actually, the halogen model would be great with a two blade shutter. Latest version possible. I am definitely a customer, Ugo! I understand it will not be cheap. But if it really is 'as good as new' and better spec too I would very much like to be the owner of 001...

It's way...but you have to glue a paper of the same dimension of the face where the writing is, otherwise you will have thin steps around the writing...
Other way is to print the writing by a pad printing machine.

Hi Gian,
You're welcome once again.
Are they still $200? Or has the price gone up?

BTW will you be in London for the BFCC? I'm heading over again this year - hope to meet more of the European collectors (met a bunch of guys last year!)

Hello Steven, how are you?
The update price is $230. Still very good, so. And I confirm they are VERY friendly and kind.

I'm planning to be at the BFCC. So there will probably the possibility to meet personally there.

Take care. Ciao.
