My friend is in possession of her late father's 8mm Bolex Paillard projector and wants to estimate the value of it. It appears to be in very fine condition and she says the motor/belts are working. It's missing the projection bulb, though. The case is also in good condition with power cord, take-up reel and tube of lubricating oil.

Any thoughts or interest?

Hi,

I have seen a few of these for sale ranging from £20 to £80 but this all depends on the condition, saying that, yours looks in a good tidy condition, they are cool projectors. You could try using a well known auction site and see if you have any interest generated on there, or advertise locally.

Good Luck [Smile]

Oh, that's a projector? [Confused] I thought is was a
kitchen appliance! [Big Grin]

Ouch! Pasquale, bite your lip! Ivan Watson, chief corespondent for 'Movie Maker' would be turning in his grave (I'm assuming he's no longer with us). He famously considered this the Rolls Royce of standard 8 silent projectors. I owned one and it was great, the lens focus was perfect edge to edge at a time when this was unusual. Sackcloth and ashes time!

It's a beautiful machine, I own a 16mm Bolex 321 and its a steady, sturdy model. I wonder why it's okay to compare them to cars with jet engines but, not so remarkable if it reminds us of Cuisinart's engineering. [Wink]

Here's one listed on eBay for around $150 shipped on a BUY NOW option...

My M8R did sound a bit like a jet engine.

Excellent! I wrote to the aforementioned Ivan Watson, asking him some questions about this machine, and he rounded off his reply by saying 'always treasure it'. Unfortunately, as much as I loved it, I wanted a sound projector and sold it for a japanese 'Toei' which was a wonder in itself, running magnetic and optical standard 8 films. I never did find any standard 8 optical films, though. I think it was a Japanese thing.

Thanks, gentlemen!

And frankly the case does look like a toaster cosy on the inside!
