Hello - I have come across some films on core and I would like to transfer them to a reel.

My question: Are there any resources i.e. the internet, books, etc...that describe how to complete this process? I have searched film forums and the internet without satisfactory results.

Thank you

You just need to acquire a split reel.

Hi Mark, try URBANSKI they might have a split reel, or failing that
Phil Sheard in the UK might be of help.

There are some on ebay at the moment:

Thank you for the responses.

I am a novice (as evident) - I will buy a split reel.

What is the procedure (how do you do it)?

Thanks

It'll be self-evident once you have the reel.

I'm presuming, perhaps incorrectly, that you have a set of rewinds. If not, you need those also.

Michael - can I use my Elmo 16-CL to manually rewind or is that a bad idea?

Marc, if you are that desperate to transfer onto a reel,it is very
simple.Get yourself a piece of plywood at least the diameter of
the film you are transfering, put a fixing in the middle of the
plywood eg a screw, keep the board flat and afix the free end of film to a empty spool either on your projector or rewinds and
transfer the film.Rewinds are preferable, but I have done it as I
didn't have a split spool.Keep the proceedure nice and slow and
there wont be any accidents.

I suppose you can, Mark, but you'll need rewinds anyway if you're taking the hobby up in any serious way. They're pretty inexpensive.

Thank you Michael and Hugh for the tips. I have about 15 Jetson's cartoons on core that I would to check out, so I was trying to cut some initial costs.

I will purchase a set of rewinds in the near future, especially for dealing with features.
