Hi
I acquired an Elmo 16CL from the USA and it runs slow.
I have a suspicion that the belt inside needs to be moved to "the slow-speed pulley" (the other groove to the right, next to the one it's on), to allow for 50hz rather than 60hz.
Does anyone know if that sounds like a solution?
And, if so, is there an easy way to move the belt without a lot of dismantling?
Thanks... and fingers crossed!
Dave

I don't have an Elmo but I Googled Elmo 16cl projector manual and found several sites that have the Manual in PDF form that you can read online or download. The one I saw was on Apecity.com.
Your answer is in the manual. Easy fix.

Correct me if I'm wrong but won't going from 60hz to 50hz make the projector run 20% slower? That said 50hz maybe correct for your location.

Check that the belt is not in the 18fps pulley. If so, you can move it to the 24fps to speed it up. Also check that the belt is not slipping on the pulley or conversely the belt may be too tight. It may need a new belt and changing the belt on this projector is no piece of cake.

Also check that the voltage is set correctly for the UK. US is usually set for 110-117.

If none of these adjustment helps. This could be a sign of a more serious problem with the transformer or motor. Let's hope that's not the case.

You can download a manual from the manuals section on this forum. However the pictures are not very clear for the changes you need to make.

The UK version of the Elmo 16CL does have two pulleys - a smaller (50Hz) and a larger (60Hz). It was not intended to run at silent film speed but changing the belt drive to the larger pulley slows it down to around 20 frames/secs.

Connected to 50Hz in the UK the motor runs at 50/60 of its 60Hz speed. Moving the belt to the smaller 50Hz pulley should increase the speed of the projector back to 24 frames/sec.

Many thanks Barry, Janice and Paul for the advice.
It's definitely a "move the belt drive" job, by the look of it.
It's just such a fiddly job!!
If anyone has any experience and therefore advice of doing this task, I'd be grateful for a tip or two.
If not, I'll just boldly go for it and hope I don't do any damage in the process.
Thanks again [Smile]

Just to say... SUCCESS!!
After a great deal of patient gentle coaxing I've managed to work the belt over to the other spindle and I'm now at normal speed.
Whoo hoo! Thanks again for all the advice [Smile]

Congrats David. It's not the only projector with a fiddly belt change.
