I've been collecting 16mm for almost 20 years, and I have never come across the term "lab original" until now. I've heard of "lab new" and "original", but never this new term until I saw a seller on eBay advertising that his print is a "lab original."

Anyone know what this term means? Or is it just a made-up term by this seller?

Lab original splices...and original lab leaders maybe...but all films are processed in a lab..so maybe he means an original print.

I would take the term to mean that the print is not a "dupe" and
has been printed from a genuine master used at the lab from a
negative or a high quality graded print. [Smile]

Ha! ALL prints are "lab originals" then!

Aye !
What I mean is that the print has not been struck from a positive
copy of a copy of a copy. Hahaha !

Well I did try. [Roll Eyes]

Sorry to give you a rough time, David, but only a little... you were being perfectly reasonable!

I suggest that the eBay seller was just trying to make his film sound more interesting to potential buyers. Did he explain the comment?

No, he didn't explain it.
