I enjoy collecting the "Chimp" movies and have recently added one more to my collection ... Chimp The Sailor 16mm b/w sound [Smile]

I wonder how many there were made? I think I have them all now but maybe someone has one or 2 I don't have or know about!
I have Chimp the .... Aviator , Cowboy , Fireman , Jamboree , Vacation , On The Farm , Steps Out ... plus now I have The Sailor [Smile]

I have a Castle Films "Chimp Comedies" reel. Is this the same series you are talking about Clinton? It's called "Chimp the Chump." It's pretty funny. I enjoy it.

Hi Janice, it is the same theme of movies but the Chimp movies have the same "feel" and look to each one.
But all chimp films are fun I think :-)

According to the Castle Films book you have all the Shorty the Chimp films.
You may be interested to learn that Castle issued between 1958 and 1968 two films with another chimp named Zippy who interacts with both children and adults. Each film is available in black & white and colour.
"Zippy's Birthday Party"
"Zippy's Beach Adventure"
I have both films on 16mm sound with faded colour. I prefer the former where the party guests, dressed in their finery, arrive to give Zippy his birthday presents. Then follows great fun.

My Dad has always been a big fan of Chimps as we grew up. He loved them so much and laugh at them so much, pretty much every birthday card we have gotten him has had a chimp on it [Smile]

naturally, I wanted some chimp movies for when he comes over.
So far, I only have one i really like and would LOVE more in Super 8.
I recommend 'Chimp Antics', which i have on Std 8 by Pyramid. Two chimps dress up and do housework stuff, maids, etc...it is great!

You must also remember the TV series i grew up with called Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp, use to make me laugh as a kid, always on a Saturday morning and often after school children's TV, it was great. Never seen it on any TV station since.

Take a look at this, the opening titles, great little show from the 70s.

We only have the one chimp film and its an old 200ft Standard 8 sound called Chimp Antics plus a couple of scope and flat PG tips Chimp adverts. [Wink]

The Castle "chimps" actually consist of shortened episodes of at least three series: The "Snooky,the humanzee" (!) from the early twenties, the "Sorty", from the mid-thirties and the "Zippy" (with the t-shirt) from the late fifties-early sixties tv. Snooky, (the one with the overalls) is in my opinion the best. Like in comic books,he is dressed as human and speaks and interacts with humans as an equal.His two reelers are fully plotted comedies where he usually saves a little girl from kidnappers "Chimp's Last Chance" is edited from "A Tray Full of Trouble" is a typical variation of the plot. "Chimp the Chump" is from "Snooky's Fresh Heir",without humans, where he and the mrs are trying to put junior to sleep.
The Shorty series is a more kid oriented and leisurly filmed as he is usually let "monkey around" in a certain setting with a Pete Smith type narrator ( "Chimp the Fireman','Chimp the Aviator','Chimp the Sailor'). On the opposite, 'Chimp the Cowboy',if it is from the same series,because he looks a little different to me,is a full scale "more realistic" if I can say that, western in which he chases and captures four badmen. The Zippy series are little more than glorified amateur films of the "see what the little chimp can do" type. ('Zippy's Birthday Party'). One more chimp film deserving mention is Walton's "Aping the Law".This is edited from still another series,"The Tiffany Talking Chimps" from 1930,original title "The Little Covered Wagon", another western themed. You must get the talkie version of this although I don't know if this has been issued in 16 mm.

Whilst we are talking about chimps, who can forget the TV ads by the Brooke Bond Tea Company featuring the Brooke Bond Chimps advertising PG Tips?

"Dad, do you know the piano's on my foot?"
"You hum it son, I'll play it."

I have a 16mm copy of "The Magic Stamps" from 1963 where the chimps remember foreign holidays by looking at various postage stamps.

I remember watching Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp on TV when I was very young :-)
And of course the Brooke Bond Chimps advertising PG Tips which I have on Super 8mm which I got from the U.K. and also they were the same ads that played here in New Zealand :-)

I am happy to say I do own the "The little covered wagon talking Chimps with Tiffany Chimps comedy b/w sound 1930's 13mins" on 16mm and it is great :-)

On 9.5 there is also SB/30074 "Ape-Y-Days", a two-reeler made by Cherry Kearton with Mary, his chimpanzee.
