Hi,
From your experiences with storing what's the ideal way of storage for each type of film?
Metal can or plastic?
I know acetate stock is prone to VS and polyester not so much.
Would the type of storage can have an affect on say acetate stock?
I have a few polyester stock films but they're only in cardboard boxes at the moment and I'd prefer to have them in cans, but don't know exactly which type to put them in.

Also, would storing two reels in one can be ideal or is that a no-no?
I always store my reels flat/horizontal.

I thoroughly recommend film cans (and other film supplies) from PEC in London so not too far away from you.

They have been in business for 85 years and you will be in good hands when dealing with them.

I bought a hundred 1200ft 16mm plastic archival cans from them last year which have been perfect for storing 16mm (1 x 800ft) and Super 8 (two in each can) spools of film - remember though you must ask them for the internal diameters as the capacities shown refer to 16mm and 35mm on cores not on spools.

For 16mm features their 2000ft 35mm cans will hold two x 1600ft 16mm Tuscan spools side by side which is the way I have stored all my features (acetate and polyester) for years with no problems at all. This is a link to these cans:

Currently £4.80 each so you can throw away those worn out card boxes and get tidying up your collection in no time and at little cost.

Some Ebay re-seller muppets charge three times this price - PEC also sell CIR splicing tapes for half the Ebay re-seller costs - no I don't work for them I just like to promote them as they are the best IMHO.

Much appreciated. I wasn't even aware there was such a place in London.

Like you said I was looking up cans on eBay and sellers are selling some for £20+ for one!

I've also read in another topic about molecular sieves that you put into cans that absorb acidity.
But I'll leave them for another time.
