First post on the forum.
Just acquired this splicer:

I've never seen a guillotine that cuts at right angles to the workflow like this - anyone know the ergonomic rationale for this orientation of the guillotine?

The twin blades cut the tape at a perfect right angle so that it is flush with the edge of the film.

Bill observes that the cutting section is at right angles to the tape joining bed.
I've never seen a CIR like this. It could almost be a prototype that never got into production.

Bill...I have the same type Std. 8mm splicer. The only difference in this model splicer is that the guillotine is located separate and vertically from the spicing area.

This is just the earlier model design...the later models had the guillotine and the splicing section on the same horizontal plateform.
