Recently I was experiencing an annoying intermittent fault. When projecting film the lower loop would keep expanding until it interfered with the bottom sprocket and caused film damage. I would stop and relace and it would run fine for a while, but then do the same. The bottom sprocket was working fine and I could not work out why, until I noticed that the sound drum was not turning. On investigation I found that the flywheel was almost seized. A few drops of oil on the bearings and problem resolved.
My Hollywood projector now working as beautifully as ever. My favourite because it is so quiet in operation, easy to lace/unlace, lovely valve amp, nylon pressure plate and large sprockets, so, kind to film and such an iconic looking
Projector.
This fault is not confined to RCA's of course, so I hope that this post will help to identify this fault for other 16mm projector owners.

Keith
You are experiencing wow and flutter with that magnetic full coat playing. It may be just a poor recording. How does it perform with an optical film track? Also the projector itself seems noisy compared to mine and I have the exact same model. Is it adequately lubricated, and do you have the correct loop formation. I find that this makes a big difference. When mine is running virtually all you can hear is the fan it is so quiet. That is why I like it so much.

yes your right on with the wow and flutter, the full coat tape it's playing is very thin and has shrunk over the years and won't play on any other projector that I have except my old Elmo . it does runs very quite i only have the sound just on
