16mm FEATURES For Sale - the first of two batches:

WHISPERING CITY (1947) Eagle-Lion crime/murder mystery set in Quebec. When a nagging wife commits suicide, her husband is threatened with a murder frame by his crooked lawyer, unless he kills a certain news reporter for him. High contrast original print but with some splices. 2 x 1600. £50

THE EMPTY CANVAS (1963) Horst Bucholz plays the son of a wealthy American woman (a scenery-chewing Bette Davis) who forgets the disappointment of finding he has no talent for being a painter by succumbing to the sexual advances of an amoral model (Catherine Spaak) who believes in indiscriminate love affairs. High contrast orig print, good condition. 3 x 1600. £80

GUEST IN THE HOUSE (1944) Overwrought melodrama in which a young manipulative woman (Anne Baxter, in a warm-up for her later role as Eve Harrington in All About Eve) moves in with her fiancé's family, pretends to be ill and turns the formerly happy household against itself. Original print with some wear. 3 x 1600 £75

VIRIDIANA (1961) Luis Bunuel's tale of Viridiana, a young nun about to take her final vows, who pays a visit to her widowed uncle at the request of her Mother Superior. Stirred by her resemblance to his late wife, he attempts to seduce her and tragedy ensues. In the aftermath, Viridiana tries to assuage her guilt by creating a haven for the destitute folk who live around her uncle's estate. But little good comes from these good intentions. DUPE 2 x 1600 £50

THE SUSPECT (1944) In 1902 London, unhappily married Philip Marshall (Charles Laughton) meets young Mary Gray, who is unemployed and depressed. Their deepening friendship, though physically innocent, is discovered by Philip's wife who threatens him with exposure and scandal, driving him to kill her. Thereafter, fortune seems to smile on Philip Marshall; but does fate have a surprise in store? Dir Robert Siodmak. DUPE. 2x1600. £50

NO HIGHWAY IN THE SKY (1951) Theodore Honey (James Stewart) is an aeronautical engineer being sent from London to examine the wreckage of a new passenger plane designed by his company. His theory is that the planes are susceptible to metal fatigue after a specific amount of time in the air. The absent minded Honey boards the Reindeer class plane (along with, oddly, Marlene Dietrich!) and only realizes that this same plane is due to fail in the next few hours after the plane is airborne. He decides to warn the crew and creates an incident regardless of whether he is right or wrong. 3 x 1600 Orig print with scratches and splices on two of the three reels hence low price £35.

MARKHAM: THE LAST BULLET (1959) Episode from US TV series starring Ray Milland as Roy Markham, a former successful New York attorney, now a private detective. 25 mins 1 reel orig print. £40

Hi Phil,

Am I right in assuming that 'high contrast' is meant as a positive? I have seen prints described as high contrast, where it was meant to indicate a n-th generation dupe where black and white where the only nuances left!
Ah, I just saw that you described it as an original, that answers my question!
