Hello there... After a good long while of reading this interesting forum - a newly acquired habit which closely trails my newly rediscovered passion for super-8 film - I thought I'd finally get "legit" and introduce myself. [Big Grin]
Well, I'm 31 and a married homeowner with a full-time job... as a teenager I used to make several stop-motion animation films with my Dad's old Bauer C1 camera... and one day my parents gave me a Bauer T450 sound projector for my birthday. Wonderful machine [Smile] except it sorely lacks a sprocket wheel which pulls the film in from the supply reel... one design flaw that's always bugged me. Anyway, I still own this projector and have been thoroughly cleaning and readjusting it... though it's not quite back up and running yet. I own a Chinon SP-330MV as well which is quite nice for viewing movies but I'm hoping to trade it in for something more high-end. A Bell & Howell 8mm model 254PA is also sitting around here somewhere. [Smile]
Anyway, I'm hoping to get back into making animation again... in the meantime I've discovered the thrill of collecting commercial films, including full-length features, on super-8 ... have learned so many great things about this venerable old format thanks to the Internet... and now I am the proud owner of two features "7th Voyage of Sinbad" and "Secret of Nimh," both of which are Derann prints, as well as some sound and silent digests (Laurel & Hardy, "The Jerk" with Steve Martin, Mack Sennett's "Slapstick," a number of WB cartoons, a German-language martial arts film by the Shaw brothers, etc.).

My room pretty much looks like a workshop at the moment as I've actually set out to try and add a sprocket wheel to my Bauer T450 projector which I'm stealing from a parted-out B&H super-8 silent machine... but I see I need tools capable of sawing and drilling metal [Eek!] [Big Grin] So I may be off to Sears Hardware sometime this week [Smile]

Anyway, that's me in a nutshell... Glad to be here and pleased to meet y'all!

Hi, Jan, don't worry about attitudes on this forum. Everyone here is quite congenial. I also have The Secrete Of NIMH from Derann, great print! Good luck on your projector repair. No doubt you will probably hear from someome knowledgeable on repairing it. Good to hear from a new member. [Smile]

Thank you! I'll actually have to post some pictures of what I'm doing with the T450 projector, just so everybody can see what kind of a madman I really am. [Big Grin] Can that be done here, actually? While I'm at it - any forum rules I should be aware of? (The FAQ link at the top is kind of dead...)

Jan,

Welcome to the forum, and welcome back to Super 8!
I know Derann warns buyers about the printing marks on "7th Voyage". How bad or distracting are they?

Doug

Hi Jan, and welcome [Smile] . It is possible to upload pictures on to the threads but not everyone has mastered it yet, you might need the advice of the illustrious Mr Milman, Alan Rik or Ugo, all of whom have succesfully uploaded pictures recently.

Mike [Cool]

A thread on how to do this would be great.

Chris.

HI Jan, Welcome.

Let me assure you that the recent "spat" you will have read between Brad and the users of this forum is not typical. It is rare and very unfortunate to say the least. I can see both sides to the debate and personally think the whole thing is getting out of hand-so stick with us! [Frown]

On the picture front it is not too difficult to do. If you look to the top left of the screen you should see a window with "buttons" in it (Forum, Chat, Upload). You want to select the upload button from this screen

This contains all of the information you will need to upload. You may need to edit your picture to ensure it meets the size requirements.

You also need your login details which need to be input at the very bottom of the screen.

Use the Browse button below the member password box to locate the file of the picture on your hard disk and select it. The click submit.

if you have the right file size and membership details you will be given a URL style address that you then cut or copy and paste into your posting.

That's it from memory! [Smile]

I noticed that little falling-out between Brad, Kevin and a few others over the use of suggestive titles. It's sad, but it's bound to happen everywhere at some point in time, I guess! Been there, both as a member on other forums and as a moderator. I do hope Kev comes back, as he is among those that have made the most impression on me in the past. [Smile]

A little window in the top left corner of my screen, you say? Are we talking an actual separate browser window here? I use Mozilla's built-in popup blocker and I'm not sure if I should be seeing something I'm not. [Confused]

Anyway. [Smile] I'm currently bidding on the carcass of a Bauer T525 projector on ebay.de - it had all the electronics, motor, lens, sound heads etc. removed so only the case and some cog wheels and worm gear etc. are left, which happens to be exactly what I need for my project. Hopefully I remain the only one who sees gold in this auction. [Big Grin]

Here you go. Look for the red arrow pointing to the UPLOAD button in the picture below. If you don't see it, then let me know what browser you are using and such as well as what the address of the webpage is. Your screen should look very similar to what you see below.

OOHHHHH. Okay, thanks, Brad. My mistake - I prefer to have the forum fill my entire browser window so I have it bookmarked as http://8mmforum.film-tech.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi which leaves out the sidebar on the left entirely. I guess I didn't realize that I would actually be needing it to access some of the forum's features. [Roll Eyes] *blush* [Cool]

BTW: welcome back Kev!!

Thanks Jan and also to all the other people who emailed me recently. Have to say I havent seen such a lively email inbox in a long time. I even thought of applying for a larger broadband bandwidth to cope [Wink]

Hi Jan,

Any answer to my "Seventh Voyage" printing marks query?

Ah, yes, the Sinbad film... I forgot to reply to that. Well - the eBay seller I got this from said that the "damage" manifested itself as occasional red flashes during one of the monster fight sequences, and it was his opinion that these could actually have been part of the movie and aren't that bad at all! That said, I've yet to watch the film myself... sadly, my Chinon SP-330MV has an issue with slightly crackly sound and I don't want that to ruin my big-screen experience of a movie I dearly love and have not even seen in many years. As for my Bauer T450, I'm really stuck needing a worm gear thingie to put on the main axle and not having any in the right size (the axle is just a bit too large). But my point is, I cannot as of yet give you my own opinion of that damage stuff as I simply don't know. [Frown]

Jan,

Thanks for the reply. When I was at Derann last year I asked Ged about "Sinbad" and he mentioned the printing marks being the reason why Derann sells that feature for a lower price. He assumed it wasn't too bothersome because no one has ever returned a print.

A "lower price" [Eek!] *cough, cough* Well, I got lucky with my copy as it sold to me for a MUCH lower price YET, compared to Derann's offer... I don't have the kind of cash liquidity that some of you seem to be able to afford (must be something that comes with age, and didn't somebody just point out I beat them as the youngest member on this forum?) - so, yeah, full features are a rare treat for me at this point.
