Hi All
Does anyone know where you can have old radio valves checked, preferably around the Cheshire area?

Try a local Ham radio club.

Tommy - Replace the value with a new one. Testers are not real accurate. I have two very good testers, uaually when they say bad ,the valve is bad , when they say good it MIGHT be good.
I have been a ham radio operator for over 50 years, and have tested many many valves(tubes). They glow in the dark !

You can find them on ebay that say they have been "tested". It's hard to figure out which one is bad when you don't have a tester handy. I usually look at the visible condition and start with the ones I think are most likely to be bad. I just fixed an old radio that way but I had a box of tubes that I picked up at an estate sale and just started swapping them out until it worked.
