One of the unsung heroes of the film world has died aged 84.

In case you have never heard of him he was a stuntman, bouncer, heavyweight boxer and minder. He stunt doubled both Sean Connery and Roger Moore in all his outings as Bond.

I don't know who he is but I just got done watching all of the Bond films up to Diamonds Are Forever including Casino Royale the last few weeks and I'll say he did a fine job on those films. I just enjoyed some of his work and didn't even know it (until now). I am sorry to hear of his passing. Looks as though the stunt work gave him a long life.

I wonder David if "Nosher" was any relation to Eddie Powell, another great stuntman, who played in various Hammer Films and also played the creature in "Alien".

Had a bit of a look around, I don't think so.

Although always film at heart, dvd's do have there uses. The extras give the other members of the film crew a look-in.

Definately a colourful character, one of the "school of hard knocks"
that are sadly in decline.R.I.P. Mr Powell.

Bob Simmons was also a stunt double for Sean Connery. I once read that he looked so much like Connery that when Connery's grandkids visited him onset they would mistake Simmons for their grandad.

Roger Moore had at least 2 other stunt doubles, the one who doubled for him in Octopussy was an Irish guy, who had his arm broken in the scene near the end where Bond is hanging on to the outside of a train. The other one had the surname Starr-Wood, he was Moore's double in Escape to Athena, and a few others. He got a mention in Movie Maker Magazine, because both he and his wife opened a film shop in Oxford under the name Starrwood Films, they both had worked at Pinewood Studios, she worked in the cutting room, and in 1979 they managed to arrange a visit to the studio for their customers. I would go there every Saturday discussing movies with them, while they kept me supplied with coffee. They even toyed with the idea of bringing out their own films, like Derann, but it never happened and I think around 1980 the shop closed.
