Ray Dolby, OBE, the US engineer who founded Dolby Laboratories and pioneered noise reduction in audio recordings has died in California, aged 80.

In 1965, whilst in England, Ray Dolby founded Dolby Laboratories.
In 1986 he was made an Honorary Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE.)
