Help!!! I have recently had a senior moment and reformatted an SDHC memory card and took a trial shot before realising I had put the card back in the camara that I had just taken out containing the "footage" i.e.files of my little Spanish grandaughter. I took the card to my local photo shop and they tried to revover the files with 2 programmes, Stella Phoenix data recovery professional and EASEW data Recovery wizard Professional. The programme recovered 1 file but without sound and recognised that there were 51 MPEG4 files but could not display them. Also tried the local computer repairer but no luck there either. Has anyone had the same problem and succeeded to recover the video or will I just have to live with it? No rude answers please!! Ken Finch [Embarrassed]

Just a thought Ken...Sometimes the file extensions of recovered data can get modified so the players do not recognize the files. Are the 51 recovered video files have the .mp4 extension? Also...what player are you using? Have you tried running the files with VLC media player?

I took the memory card to a local photo shop who tried to recover the footage using Stellar Phoenix data recovery and also Easew data recovery wizard professional. This resulted in showing there were 51 files .mp4 but only 1 would open and play on their equipment. I am not sufficiently computer literate to be able to decide which of the many recovery programmes that are on the internet which may work. The operating instructions for the camera, a Panasonic HX-DC1, states that if the card is reformatted in the camera, the cards control data may be merely modifiedand the data itself may not be completely erased. In SOME cases it may be possible to recover data from a reformatted card using special software for the purpose. I am looking for information from anyone who has succeeded and what software did the trick.
The "footage was shot using 480 - 30 mode. Ken Finch. [Confused]

So you do not have a copy of the recovered data? I suggest you load the free version from EaseUS http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/free-data-recovery-software.htm and try to recover the files yourself. I have used this program successfully in the past? If you recorded anything on the SSD card after reformatting...this could over-write the previous files or corrupt them. Give it a try and let me know. Also download TLC Media Player http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html. Try to play the files with this player instead to see if you get better results.

Thanks Janice, I will give it a try. Iam exploring other avenues as well and will post reults when I get the chance. Seem to have a lot of projects on the go at the moment. I don't know how I used to get the time to go to work!! Ken Finch [Wink]
