Forum members within reach of Croydon might welcome a rare opportunity to to see David Lean's THE PASSIONATE FRIENDS (1949) on 35mm (a print from the BFI's 2008 restoration) on Tuesday 13 September at 7.30pm. It will be a special event to celebrate the auditorium finally being fully intact with 68 cinema seats once again, with some missimg/damaged seats replaced or refurbished. The Mayor of Croydon and two representatives of the David Lean Foundation; the charity which kindly funded the improvements, will attend. Respected critic David Thomson said about THE PASSIONATE FRINDS: "Of all Lean's films, this is the most deserving of rediscovery."

Sounds good, how wide is the screen?

I notice they are looking for a projectionist [Smile]

I was pleased we ran some of David Lean films back in 2011 complete with Overture and Intermission just before we closed and sadly 35mm in general was to disappear. "Doctor Zhivago" itself looked great on the big screen, and at the time I felt that this would be the last time I will ever see it on film [Frown] our young projectionist I think he put together the "Doctor Zhivago" print, as we took turns on the different prints" kept a close eye on the focus and sound through out, while I and the rest of us enjoyed watching the films in the cinema.

A lot of work went into getting those prints ready for screening but it was certainly worth it.
