I remember the little silent movie viewer things, to be sure, but I never knew that they actually tried these out with SOUND!

it even comes with three film loops! I wonder if they ever made any more of these sound loops for these devices? I also wonder if these were standard 8mm or super 8? Super 8 was certainly around in 1968, but i don't recall as to when sound was added to the "super 8 mix"?

UPDATE!!! Wait a minute! One of the photos seems to show that this was an optical sound machine! WOW!!

Osi, the Kenner sound films were special 12mm film with a 4mm optical track.

Not exactly up to super 8mm standards! [Big Grin]

Paul! Awesome stuff.

there is one youtube video that demonstrates the sound version, but it appears that the sound is very low. I wonder if any of the releases were in color? They appear to all be black and white.

Still, fascinating stuff!

Paul, I checked the second youtube you gave above, it says the film is 8mm. So is there another Kenner with 12mm?

I stand corrected Winbert. The super8 data base says that the Kenner Optical sound film is 11.5 mm wide, using a standard 8mm picture size and a 3,5mm wide optical track.

Here is a picture of the sound film cartridge:

and here is the threading path for the 11.5mm optical sound film:
