Hi there!

I've always been a HUGE fan of the two British TV series THE PROFESSIONALS and THE PERSUADERS.

They are out there on 16mm both of them cause even though they were produced in the video age and mostly distributed on video, they were still distributed on 16mm film in some areas.

You can also find them on Super 8. There was a PERSUADERS for sale on Ebay recently (on two reels no box though). Now I seem to remember from the good old Super 8 days that the Italian company (was it) TECHNO FILM released at least one episode of each of these series on Super 8. Beautifully packaged in a big cardboard box with picture on the front and three plastic casettes inside with each a 120m reel.

As you know TECHNO FILM made lots of these three reelers in beautiful boxes of features and other tv series!

Is my mind playing tricks on me or did these actually exist? If they do exist I'd love to get my hands on them for sure! Can anybody help to confirm that they are out there?

All the best, KURT!

Hi Kurt, as far as I know Techno released two episodes of the Persuaders. I have "Chain of events". The other episode is "Death in the Family"

However you must be aware that they are on 3 x 400'/episode, so I am afraid that the one on eBay now is incomplete.

Cheers,

Brilliant!

Thank you SO much for the information, Winbert!

The one on Ebay was on two 600 feet reels so it was probably complete but he didn't have the box!

The boxes looks fantastic so I gotta have the boxes intact! They are going in the glass cabinet in the living room!

If you got the box to your “Chain of events” episode, would it be possible for you to post a picture of it? That would be really great!

All the best, KURT

I was not even aware of the Techno film releases of The Persuaders, but besides those, I have two other episodes with optical sound: The Gold Napoleon and another one that I need to check the title of.

I have 2 'UFO' episodes on super 8 from Techno Films these were 3x400ft complete I think, they also did them as 1x400ft. 'Strange Report' I had, but Italian sound so had to send back. 'The Protectors' were 2x400ft so could be complete, they were 25 minutes. I also bought 'Zoo Gang' optical sound, very quiet sound but good image, 3x400ft.

I think 'The Persuaders' were also 2x400ft, as were 'The Champions. With the odd one 3x400ft. I never recall seeing 'The Professionals' though.

I must say I have a love of the old ITC productions, luckily most are available on dvd/blu-ray, but they were done on film 35mm and in colour, although in the UK we could only see them in B/W. Sir Lew Grade the ITC man was very forward looking filming in colour.

He stopped flying with British Airways when they introduced a ban on cigars. Hi there (again)!

Thank you SO much for the information Alexander and David!

I've been meaning to ask around about this for so long and when I finally get it done there's tons of information coming in!

I didn't know there were Super 8 THE PERSUADERS prints with optical soundtrack! I wonder if THE PROFESSIONALS were issued that way as well?

I might be mistaken about the Techno prints of THE PROFESSIONALS with the box and the cassettes. I was so sure I saw that back in the 80s but it could be wishful thinking....

It was quite common for Techno film to issue 3 x 400 feet sets. I got a picture showing the box, the three cassettes and the three reels of an episode of ATTENTI A QUEI DUE which is THE PERSUADERS in Italian. The episode is CATENA DI EVENTI which of course is CHAIN OF EVENTS. It's probably dubbed in Italian which is cool in a way of it's own but if one wants to it should be fairly simple to rerecord the magnetic soundtrack from the DVD.

Does anybody know if there were any German releases on Super 8. THE PERSUADERS were of course called DIE 2 in Germany and THE PROFESSIONALS were called DIE PROFIS!

All the best, KURT!

My thoughts on the optical sound prints. I would think they were airline prints, most likely for British Airways.

Hi there!

Thanks Winbert for pointing me towards that web page. There were lots of interesting pictures of Super 8 releases there!

I find those boxes SO nice! There's lots of good memories coming back seeing them!

I remember there was a small shop in downtown Oslo back in the late 70s early 80s that ONLY sold super 8 films. That's all he did and he could make a living from that! His shop was in a busy street so I guess his rent must have been high, but he stayed there for many years.

I remember the walls in the shop was covered with film boxes. I stood there for hours some times looking at them. No wonder film "nutters" like us can't let Super 8 go......

All the best, KURT!

I'm certain Techno did not release anything from The Professionals and I'd be astonished if anyone did, as I've never heard evidence of it. I've got one on 16mm.

Hi there!

Can't let THE PERSUADERS on Super 8 go! "Seek and you shall find", as they say, and that's certainly been the case for me recently!

In order to track down THE PERSUADERS on Super 8 I thought I'd have a check on Italian Ebay. And it prooved very succesful. A while ago I found CHAIN OF EVENTS (first broadcast October 16th 1971) or CATENA DI EVENTI as the episode is called in Italian. Dubbed in Italian of course but I got the English soundtrack on a DVD so I can rerecord the soundtrack if I want to!

Recently I also found THE OLD, THE NEW AND THE DEADLY (first broadcast October 23rd 1971). At least I think it's that one. It's in the mail as I write this so haven't had a chance to check yet. The Italian title is L'AQUILA DI BRONZO. The bronze eagle! But this kind of fits in with the plot where a girl tries to clear her fathes name from being accused of being a Nazi and the answer lies in a statue of a bird! Again Italian soundtrack of course!

Winbert mentioned earlier on this forum that there might be a Super 8 Tecno print of the episode DEATH IN THE FAMILY (first broadcast January 12 1972). And this rises very exiting possibilities! Maybe there are three Techno film episodes of THE PERSUADERS out there! I'll keep on digging!

Alexander mentioned on this forum that that he had a couple of episodes of THE PERSUADERS with optical sound. And most likely, as you mentioned David, they are British Airways prints. My initial thought then was that maybe British Airways got hold of some prints of THE PROFESSIONALS as well! But on second thought, probably not, since THE PROFESSIONALS was concidered very violent in those days and probably to "hard" to show on a flight......

And back to "seek and you shall find"! Stumbeled over information of a Spanish Super 8 THE PERSUADERS release! LOS PERSUASORES! The tiltle is I think, (It's hard to read what's on the box in the picture) AQUI MONTECARLO (ATENCION A ESOS DOM). Roughly translated that should be; Here Monte Carlo (Warning Dom to those) or something like that! This is probably a cut down from the tv movie MISSION: MONTE CARLO from 1974. I guess it's just one 400ft reel. Still, would be great fun to have, so I'll keep on looking!

All the best, KURT!
