Hi fellow members
I have just been given the above print and wondered if anyone can give me any ifo on it.
Maybe I am being a bit thick but I only seem to recall ever seeing a 2x600ft of this (I think). Would this be the same? I don't recall seeing it pop up on lists or eBay as a 3x400ft.
It is in the original boxes and in really great condition, especially the colour
Just curious thats all
Cheers

Hi Colin
Superman was released as a 3x400 in big white and light blue plastic boxes. Perry's and Independent 8 usually have copies.
Superman 2 was released in scope by Derann as a 2x600 and I think as a full feature.
Supergirl was released full feature in Scope by Derann.
Prints tend to be very good although some of the original Superman prints have gone pinky.

Superman 2 is also a cut-down. It runs about an hour.

Thanks Mike/Mark,
At least now I know. Mine is the one in Blue and white plastic boxes and luckily the colour is really rich
Thanks again

Colin, you probably know this, but the 1x400ft version of Superman has the extra scene where Superman takes Lex Luther to prison. Splicing this onto the end of the 3x400ft wraps up the longer version nicely.
Both versions, it seems vary wildly in quality. I have the 3x400ft in the American plastic boxes and whilst the colour is good, the picture is very grainy and a bit soft. I remember hiring this same version many years ago and the definition was pin sharp.
Hope yours is a good one!

There was also a 3 x 400 foot version of SUPERMAN II on super 8.
I purchased it from L.A. Films back in '84 (remember Larry Arpin?). He advertised it as being released in Germany and then he had it re-dubbed to english and sold the prints here in the U.S.A. for somewhere around $170.
The 3 x 400 version print was letterboxed and the content was completely different from Derann's version and did not flow as well as Derann's. Each reel had leaders, but no titles.
The colors were (and still are) very good - no fading.
These came in plain white boxes, so I'm not sure about the "claimed" origin of this release.
Anyone else out there ever have a copy of this?
Nick.

Hi Rob
The definition on this one is OK. Didn't actually know about the scene on the 400ft, so thanks for the info on that. I will have a look around for one now .
Cheers

Hi Colin, Mike N, was spot on with his first reply. It was only released as a 3 x 400ft version. I would suspect that someone has just spooled it onto 2 x 600ft spools purely for convenience.

Hi Nick,
you wrote: "He advertised it as being released in Germany and then he had it re-dubbed to english and sold the prints here in the U.S.A."
Superman II was never published in Germany. It is supposed in Germany that Superman II was one of the last projects of the KEN/UFA joint venture, but the project was stopped, because of 8mm sales crash and video success.
In Germany circultating some 3 x 400 editions which were made in U.S.A. (typical blue reels) released only for Germany.

I believe the extra scene at the end of the film where Superman takes Lex Luthor to prison is also on the 200ft version, which mighy be a slightly cheaper option than buying the 400ft version just for that scene.

Andreas- (Ref. Superman II 3 x 400 flat) Thanks for that information. That explains a few things, like why no titles or commercial boxes. Mine were on blue reels as well.
Nick.
