The only one I have is the actual TV Broadcast from '64 of MONSTERS WE'VE KNOWN AND LOVED; On Audio Cassette - Shorty

Was there ever a definite list of this series ever produced? Apart from Monsters We've Known and Loved being on a Werewolf DVD I have did any the other titles surface on DVD.

Wow! Quite a few. I happen to have "Swashbucklers" and "Musicals". I bet the Marilyn Monroe one is fairly rare.
It's a shame that there are all black and white but curiously enuf, the ones I have were printed on LPP film stock, one in sepia tone, the other with a very bluish quality to it.

You can always Wikipedia the name, think there were only a handful of programs during the run - Same with SILENTS PLEASE, PAUL KILLIAM'S MOVIE MUSEUM (Big fan of this and one of my earliest ushers into the world of silent films) - Shorty

My copy of Marilyn had the Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend colour extract spliced into the documentary after the appearances with GIs in Korea. It actually works quite well and both prints matched focus wise.
I would rate the Gangsters best print wise followed by Bogart. Monsters is the most interesting as you have everything from silent horror to Karloff /Lugosis and ending with Vincent Price and Corman movies.

Hi Keith
That is some collecting. Well Done! I have actually found a company in US that sells them on DVD so I have ordered two volumes to see what the quality is like. They contain episodes that never made it onto Super 8 as well so it should be interesting viewing.
Site link attached some interesting archive titles.

Did you ever get the 2x600 Bogart documentary made around 1969? It was narrated by John Huston and it had inteview segments in colour although there was fade and pinkness present.

All 32? What outfit produced it all? It always amazes me that overseas distributors had alot more than many of the US counterparts - Cheers, Shorty

We got a couple of these, Bing Crosby docu, moments of greatness the Oscars, this one one has very good sharp image and sound, and Monsters we have loved, the later is probably the most fun to watch.

Yes Mike - I also have the Bogart 2 x 600'. My print is quite good considering the source material.
Posted by Mike Newell (Member # 23) on August 19, 2015, 02:51 PM:
Hi Shorty
It is actually a U.S. Company that have release them. I will give review of DVDs when I receive them.
Keith you are bound to have 600 ft Hollywood The Dream Factory story of MGM. What about the 200' Oscar the First Fifty Years narrated by Jack Lemmon?

Yes Mike - have them both.
Posted by Mike Newell (Member # 23) on August 19, 2015, 03:25 PM:
LOL Keith wouldn't be because a certain person gets his Oscar from Barbara Streisand? He also gets interviewed in Holywood USA outside Mann' s Theatre.
I must compile a list of John Wayne on super 8 I found an old list I made in 2004. You can marked them off and add in additional titles you have.
I presume you have Once Upon a Mouse 600 and Elstree Story 2x 600.
Posted by Keith Ashfield (Member # 741) on August 19, 2015, 03:46 PM:
Yes - correct on all counts Mike
Posted by Mike Newell (Member # 23) on August 19, 2015, 03:57 PM:
Bet life became easier for you Keith when retired from super 8. A certain dealer used to laugh and know it was either you or me when he advertised John Wayne.
We also seem to have very similar collecting tastes to me.

Keith....I have The Great Directors and it is a very nice film but my print is washed out and soft focus...how does your copy of this title look?
Bill
Posted by Mike Newell (Member # 23) on August 19, 2015, 05:20 PM:
Bill
My copy of Directors tended to be hard to keep in focus as well.

Thanks Mike.... I was wondering if there might be an upgrade. I enjoy watching it but unfortunately I don't put it on for company.

Keith digressing slightly back to Oscar the 1st Fifty Years I found this article on it s release. It was issued to schools and colleges by the academy as an educational tool in 1978. I presume in 16mm before it mysteriously appeared on 8mm. It states 22 minutes. Now my print couldn't fit onto 200ft reel I had to put onto 300ft bonum reel. It was quite thin stock and at the start said it came from the collection of Ralph E Helbold. Is yours the same? I reckon running time would be 15 minutes approx.

Bill - Mine is the same quality, I don't think there is anything better out there.
Mike - My "Oscars" is about 15 minutes long.I remember it came on an "overflowing" 200ft spool. By the way, not retired from Super 8 so any Wayne material that I don't already have is still sought after
One of my "prize" possessions is a full length print of "Brannigan" on Super 8mm.
Posted by Mike Newell (Member # 23) on August 19, 2015, 06:12 PM:
I was aware of Brannigan . I had Rooster Cogburn full feature remember jumping up and down in my cinema that night . I searched repeatedly for True Grit full feature but never found any trace of it so any prints are in the U.S. I was offered The Searchers for £500 about 15 years ago but passed and the collector who bought it said it was full of scratches and faults. When you consider drivel like Jet Pilot and The Conqueror were issued by Universal 8. Hell Fighters also saw the light of day in full feature in the US.
For those at home here it is from u tube and trust me their print is much better

Right your next challenge In Search of Dracula 1975 4x400 documentary with Christopher Lee. Comes in a lovely pink tinge on most occasions I can almost hear you say Got It but I think horror might be your weak link lol.

No - haven't got that one Mike. You are correct - I don't go in for horror a great deal.

Funny enough we had been watching some of our hefty collection of 16mm prints as these which always prove popular with older audiences. The 16mm prints are nice to view but I do find the 8mm issues somewhat lacking in sharpness.
IN SEARCH OF DRACULA is also available COMPLETE on dvd if you ever want to see the whole thing. Interesting doc.

Your right on that one Lee, the oscars is very good but the other to are slightly sofgt

Your right on that one Lee, the Oscars is very good but the other to are slightly soft,a bit like the MGM 400 footers

One of the things I really liked about the "Swashbucklers" episode, is that it almost serves as a mini-documentary on the two highlighted people, Douglas Fairbanks Sr. and Errol Flynn which, in both cases, showed the two men aging past they're swashbuckling days, but especially with Errol Flynn, (one shot, shortly before he died) and how Errol in some ways, was almost clueless as to why he was aging prematurely and just seeing himself physically falling apart. Quite sad and it always makes me a little melancoloy, watching it.
Posted by Lee Mannering (Member # 728) on August 22, 2015, 02:45 AM:
It is sad Osi...
We have recently finished cataloguing the stock of titles and thumbing through so many films you cant help but ponder what private lives some of these top stars had back then, troubled geniuses many of them.
Another nice film to have is Wayne & Shusters Affectionate Look At Monsters which I forgot I had till we unearthed it.
Carry on projecting!

United Artists Eight released a few Hollywood & The Stars titles on Standard 8mm sound/silent 200'.
When Ken Films took over they only sold the silent versions.
