Just heard from Scott MacGillivray - His book is out and can be ordered from Barnes and Noble; CASTLE FILMS; A HOBBYIST'S GUIDE - It has a swell cover and looks to be the finest research on the subject - Shorty

Hi Joe,
This sounds great!! I am heading over to Barnes & Noble first thing in the morning.
While we're on the subject, what other books have been published for the film collecting hobbyist? My library includes the following titles:
Film Collecting, by Gerald McKee, - a wonderful book for collectors of all film sizes.
The Movie Collectors Catalog, by Ken Weiss- a great book, chock full of wonderful pictures and vintage movie ads.
The Home Cinema, by Gerald McGee- another terrific book by Gerald, this time dedicated to a history of all the movie projectors sold and used in the home from the 1920's thru the 1950's. Indispensable to any collector of any film size.
And, of course, the 1956 Pathescope Film Catalogue, a great read even if you don't collect 9.5mm film.
Anybody got any other titles?

Thanks Shorty, that's great news! If you follow this link, you can order the book and read a few pages from Chapter 1.

That Gerald McKee book is one I've never read - Wanna sell? - Another fine book I have is COLLECTING CLASSIC FILMS by Kalton C. LaHue - That's someone I'd like to speak with as he was the only person I know who interviewed Dot Farley, and that is my research - Shorty

Just got my copy. A great book, with a really great cover. Basically a refernce book of all the Castle Films ever printed, along with profuse illustrations. Absolutely indispensable to the film collector. Highly recommended.

Paul, did you pick it up at a particular store in Orlando or did you order it?

Bon Soir Jean-Marc,
No, I had to order it through Barnes & Noble, which is a major book store chain here in the US. It only took 10 days. Very nice little book.

Paul, thanks. It'll be easier to order it on the net, then.
(Yes, I know what B&N is... I travel to the US regularly, at list twice a year and usually spend a fortune on books)

Hello all, after reading this book I must say this is a must have for any collector, it is very useful and informative listing all the films and the years they were issued, plus tells you the story of how Castle Films started, it would make a great gift for that film lover just starting out or the advanced collector.

Hi-
Just picked up a copy of the Castle Films book at B. Dalton Books here in Washington D.C.
Very nice cover. I have read the first 15 or so pages so far. It has an abundance of information on the Castle Film empire. I was a little dissapointed that there were not more pictures of those beautiful nostalgic old box covers. I was hoping for at least a few nice glossy color pages in the middle. Oh well .
I do still highly recommend this! If not for the very interesting and in-depth history of this famous super 8 franchise, at least to support anyone that would invest so much time and effort into a book about film collecting.
Maybe somebody will come out with a nice big full color (and sound ) glossy coffee table book full of nice box pictures. Some day I hope.
Nick.

Sounds like a job for Mike Peckham and his attractive assistant Rexette.

Although I'm delighted to hear that this is out, I must say that having read through the contents (via the link supplied), I'm disappointed to learn that only about 20 of about 400 pages cover the history of the company - which I would have been particularly interested in. I'd therefore be interested to know if the rest is essentially a well-documented reference work covering all the releases.

Yeah I wanted Glossy boxes on the middle pages but I wanted columns stating in what formats and sizes each film came out in. Now if they would only make a similar book for Ken films or columbia.....or maybe mountain films?? I see there is a Walton page.....
