Had a discouraging thing happen the other day. After running two reels of films perfectly, my old St1200Hd...suddenly just stopped. It had broken the large belt. Switching to my other St 1200..which had been operating fine....it wouldn't come up to speed, even with a long warmup time. Sticky or stretched belts? You guys are experts....do you have to remove anything or do surgery on those machines to put the new belts on? I've ordered the belts, but it looks fairly tricky for that drive belt. I can't see how it went on since it was lying at the bottom of the machine when I opened it up.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

(which admittedly has nothing to do with whether the machine works or not...)

If you need pictures to help you get an idea of which belt goes where (and how) I'd be glad to take some from the inside of my ST1200HD and post them here. [Smile]

I just finished changing the belts on the ST1200HD that I had. The hardest belt for me to change was the large rewind belt. I had to remove one of the gears near the front of the machine and one in the back in order to get the belt on. After that it was easy.
The large belt and the small belt that is connected to the motor were very easy. You just slide them in and then slip them onto the round wheel. I didn't have to change the counter belt as that was ok.

Thanks to Tom and you others who helped with belt changing. Tom 's description was perfect. I got one machine done...and as Tom predicted.....when I was putting the takeup belt back on....the tiny little clip that holds gears on the spindle flew up and ended up who knows where. I searched the floor...I searched in the projector...turned it upside down...and every which way...never did find it...so I went to hardware store, bought a couple ...and now both Elmos are purring along very nicely. I was a bit concerned about lack of tension on the take up so I ran a full 1600ft film..and it performed admirably. Thanks to everyone.

Excellent, i reckon most of the elmo 1200's out there are probably in need of three belts changed, it makes one hell of a difference, also when the belts are off its worth just taking not of the tensioner on the main motor belt to ensure its free and spinning.
