but if you're looking for a silent dual-8, probably Eumig too - not sure if Bell & Howell ever made a decent dual-8 (one that doesn't compromise too much in order to accept both formats). I know of the model 1623 projector but it has a sprocketless drive, film transport is done entirely via the claw. *shudder*

As for GAF - can't answer that question but you might be better off just flat out avoiding them. [Eek!]

Your Eumig S926 GL is strictly for the Super 8mm format.

Jan, yes it is stereo, but it's also one of these dreaded co-axial models and, when that goes wrong, it can be extremely rough on films.

For dual-gauge silent, don't for get the Chinon 100 and 200 models. Nice solid jobs.

Despite the sprocketless feed, the Eumig 500/600 series machines and the Mark 8 all perform well.

For sound, I've never had a problem with my various 800 series Eumigs. From an engineering point of view, I would rather use separate projectors, each optimized for the gauge, but can't attribute any film wear to the Eumigs.

I guess it is as much a question of projector condition and care as anything else. Firms like Eumig didn't ship rubbish designs - they wouldn't have lasted if they did. But worn or dirty projectors are bound to give trouble. Projector film paths should be cleaned after every couple of hours of use, and the whole works lubricated after every dozen or so, if we want to keep them going and protect film.

My Eumig needs some TLC, (it's been in storage for a while) Is there something beyond Canned-air and alcohol I should be using to get it spiffed? As for Super8 Only, is there a cutoff year I can look for to see if Movies are in the right format? I'm sure most ebay descriptions are too generic.

I recently picked up a Eumig Mark DL dirt cheap on Ebay ($20US.) After a good thorough cleaning and lube inside/out it now runs very well with both 8mm and Super 8 movies.

After the auction closed at such a low bid I was a bit concerned about the quality of this projector, and I must say that my initial film screenings prior to cleaning and lube were very disappointing but now she runs well on both formats. By the way, Mark DL's do appear to sell very cheap on a regular basis on Ebay.
