Well, first up, thank you to all those who replied to my Introductions post; this place really does have a cosy, warm feeling to it.

I've taken on board your suggestions and began rooting about for a decent projector to spend some decent money on.

In the meantime, I've made a few speculative purchases.

I made a punt on an Agfa Sonector LS2 - untried with silent or sound film but "the light comes on" was the ominous, vague description that accompanied the listing. Douglas confirmed that there was more than a bit of similarity between them and the Bauer 190 series so I thought I'd see how good they were. I've seen them listed anywhere from €100 to £100 with all the bits and boxes. This one looked in good nick but without the box and cost £33.07 with shipping.

Next up was my first purchase from Europe; a REVUE LUX SOUND 310. As soon as I'd hit the bid button a great big flash of "Why didn't you think of that before?" hit me. I'd been so used to looking at Eumigs with their variable voltage regulators on the back that I completely forgot to check that this item was adjustable. There is a picture showing the volts and amps on the back but it is too low definition to see but I'm guessing it is fixed at 110. Which means I'm going to have to go looking for a step down switch I guess. Anybody know if this model has a magic lever under the hood that allows the voltage to be changed to 240? The German blurb said that the little pin that flips over on the second spool to hold the reel in place was missing. I'm hoping I can either buy a replacement or manafacture some homemade widget to lock the reel in place. Cost was €24.50 (about £17) and shipping should be just shy of €24 too.

I also bought one of those much touted Agfa Family viewers; the jobbie with the frosted glass viewer on the front. I know I'm going to have flickering issues with framerates but I was just going to give it a go with the camcorder without having any keystoning issues that come with not being able to put the camcorder directly in front of the projection image. And it was only £4.99 plus some postage so not too much lost here.

None of the goods are in my clammy mits yet but my main purpose was to use them as initiatory models that I can take the backs off, fiddle with the cogs and belts, try to learn how to clean them, all without the fear that if I muff it up I've cost myself a fortune.

So, no major shelling out of spondooleys on a Eumig 938 yet but I've got enough to fiddle with for a bit whilst I find out what's going on.

Cheers, chaps.
