I was looking through some Movie Maker mags today and noticed an ad for a Heurtier super 8 Stereo projetcor. This was dated Feb 1976. In the small adds Elmo were still selling the ST1200 and there was no mention of the HD or GS range till late 78 early 79. No mention of stereo machines from Eumig, Noris or any of the other mnufacturers.
So was it the French designers who realised that the balance stripe could be used for Duo/Stereo recording and playback, 2 years before the others?

Kev, that is my dim recollection also - that the French Heurtier was the first Super 8 stereo projector in the world. Soon to be followed by Elmo and Eumig.

Yep, that's it, the Heurtier Stereo 42. Looking at Jürgen Lossau's excellent book, this projector was first introduced in 1972.

Just looking through the Movie Maker mags it looks like the Noris 342 was the next one. The Elmo GS1200 doesnt look like it surfaced untill late 78 followed by the GS800.
What about the Braun's, Eumigs and the Bauer's when did they turn up on the scene.

Kev, again from Lossau's book:

1972:
Heurtier Stéréo 42

1976:
Bauer T60
Bauer T510

1977:
Bauer T600
Braun Visacustic 1000
Noris 342

1978:
Beaulieu 708
Elmo GS1200
Heurtier Stéréovox

1979:
Bauer T610
Elmo GS800
Eumig S926GL

1980:
Braun Visacustic 2000
Chinon SS1200
Eumig S938
Revue Lux Sound 80
Sankyo Sound 800

1981:
Chinon SS1000
Eumig S940

Strangely, there's no trace of the Yelco3600 in the book.
There are blanks regarding some machines by Fuji, Porst (stereo 215), Bolex (was the SM80 stereo?), Noris 322...
As far as I remember, the Fumeo Superxenon 2000 was also stereo.

(Kev, you've almost reached 1200 posts... That must be a sign of some sort.)

Of some sort yes? Jean, was that Beaulieu the 708EL mono or stereo as I thought the stereo version was later than that?
I think the Yelco was in the early 80's. I'm sure it was after the GS1200.
Certainly looks like Europe led the way on this one [Smile]

I don't remember seeing a 708EL that wasn't at least dual-track, so with stereo potential when hooked up to an amplifier. That's the one I still own and use. But maybe I'm wrong (about the mono/dual track thing, that is...) Lossau's book says there's a unit called "708EL Modul" that might have a single sound-head, but I never saw that projector.
The "EL Stereo" was released in 1980.

Both SM80 models are dual-track machines but not capable of stereo reproduction.

Thanks Seppo (welcome to the forum, by the way). No line-out/aux socket on these?

Thank You, Jean, I should have welcomed You, (note the date of registering, [Wink] ) but I have been idle after registering which is a shame on me.

Basically SM80 Programmatic and Electronic are derivatives of Eumig 800 -series projectors. These come from the same factory, I think. Audio system is very similar to that of 810HQS. I am away from my projectors and manuals for some time being, so I can not give exact specs at the moment.
