Well I now have these 2 lenses in my possession so I decided to do a test. The Schneider lens that I have is the one that is made for the Elmo so it does not have a sleeve that it goes in and out of.
Both lenses are in good condition with no bloom.
Went and adjusted each lens to the machine and lo and behold.
I eat my previous words.. to my eyes the Schneider 1.1 is sharper. Not only that but the picture is a little cooler and not as warm (yellow) as the 1.0. You can see the difference when just projecting the white light on the wall.
And that must be the reason why it seems as bright as the 1.0.
Since I have put the lens into my GS I just haven't gone back to the 1.0. I am not sure of the consistancy of all the Schneiders but this one is truly awesome. Thank you Ian for the great deal on this lens and Kev..thanks for pointing me in the right direction. "Grease" in Scope looks SO much better! Everything in perfect focus. I have to say I think this lens is better than the 1.0. It reminds me of the 1.2 auditorium. That is a great lens too!

Interestingly I find the opposite. I get a sharper image with the Elmo than the Schneider. I also get more light through the Elmo. Could it be the lenses vary from batch to batch?

Well, it seems that the jury is still out...

There are so many elements involved, such as age of lamp, ESC or EJL, state of the lens itself, number of blades on the shutter, lens adjustment on the gate, etc. that I suppose it all comes down to a matter of taste.

I like the cooler colours of the Xenovaron and I keep one on my Beaulieu 708 as it is perfect for the EFR lamp. But, like John, I also like the sharpness of the Elmo 1.0... So I have one on my GS1200...

It seems that you found the perfect projector/lamp/lens combo to suit your tastes. Kudos.

Yes, these lens vary from batch to batch... better: from specimen to specimen!
But this is right for the Schneider only. The quality of the 1.0 is constant (this is not for the elmo 1.1).
When I made the same test (and I saw many Schneider 1.1) I liked the 1.0 expecially for the better focus on the edges than the Schneider.

Alan, I find the Schneider is bluer than the more yellow Elmo but I do like my 1.0. Others have commented on the difficulty faced in keeping the Elmo focussed but I have not had that problem. Probably my eyesight.

I have 2 or 3 1.0's but have not sat down and tried them side by side. Perhaps I should. I don't know why I have so many even, just compulsive buying I guess....watch out ebay here I come.....

Alan's findinggs are exactly the same as mine. I find the light output with my Schneider 1.1 is approx 95 lux more than the Elmo 1.1s I have comparred it against (3). The thing about the Schneider is that it gives a slightly better contrast and is less yellow.
As for the edge sharpness....yes I thought that was a slight problem when I first got my lens but a tweak of the screw under the lens and I now have pin sharp edge to edge definition.
I can certainly see why Tony Shapps rated it over the Elmo 1.1 [Smile]

I'm new here (today) and I have the Schneider Xenovaron f/1.1 fitted to my GS1200 because to my eyes, the Xenovaron easily beats Elmo's far bigger and bulkier f/1.0 lens.

The downside is that Elmo's external focus knob is useless but who cares when the picture looks so much better?

Yep, i remember being on a subject of this same item and i distinctly also remembering saying that as i understand it the 1.1 is a sharper image to the 1.0 [Wink]
