I´m curious how many of you buy new released full length features?
I bought only once a new feature, it was Return of the Jedi.
I pay often a high price for a feature but not for Super 8 prints, most for old 16mm Technicolor prints.
I buy often S8 cut downs of movies I wanted to watch them as I was a child.
This days it is very dificult to release a full length feature, so I´m curious how many collectors pay a high price for a full feature.

I have many Features which I have bought new.
Master and Commander and a whole load of Disney's. If there are titles which I really want I would prefer to have them new and not second hand. At least that way I know what I'm getting.
I hate getting a movie which I really wnat to keep only to find its been through someone elses poorly maintained super 8 projector [Frown]

Although the majority of features in my collection were previously owned (or pre-certified as car dealers like to say), I have quite a few new prints also. I enjoy the cutdowns tremendously but there are only a handful of great edit jobs among them. Full length features are a joy but yes, they certainly are pricey. With "M&C" I felt it was extremely important to support Derann in their desire to bring out a new feature. There are also some titles that never seem to appear on used lists, so I patiently wait till those sales come around. It's also nice to think that the brand new film you're threading up was printed just for you!

All used prints for me. I just can't afford the new ones. Although, I bought a film lot of several 16mm features(many were Blackhawks)and several had absolutely no wear other than preprint. I have bought a couple of sealed never opened super 8 digests. I have a super 8 Wizard Of Oz feature I bought on eBay for $225.00 that's gorgeous LPP with no wear. It's a Derann.

most of my super 8 full length features I have bought new from Derann and other companies. "Master and Commander" was the latest one.

And if there would be no collectors bying new prints, others couldn't buy used prints [Wink]

Bying new films means keeping our hobby alive. Hi Derann, what about a new release?! [Smile]

I will buy the smaller trailers and special cut downs new but the features, except for Grease Scope I have purchased second hand. There must not be that many people buying new because the second hand lists look smaller and smaller everyday.

I mean take a look at that list? That was an incredible time of revival for Super 8. I can't remember the last time I saw Bugs Life on a list. And Star Wars..? I have seen it but unless you are caller number 7.. you will not get the title.
I love the feature length films but it is so ironic that the whole nature of Super 8 was supposed to be amateur and low cost yet the films cost SO much money new.
I assume that in 2001 Derann were probably producing more films as well.

I also bought many of my feature films new from derann. For example films like Return of the jedi, Generations, The fugitive, speed, die hard etc.

The last new print I ordered by derann was master and commander.

I think there are still some people who buy films new. But these people now buy films they like and the chance that these titels are on the second hand list are very small.

I think for example M & C will not often see on the second hand list in the future.

I also buy second hand prints but only from films that no longer available. For example the feature of Scars of Dracula is no longer available new from derann. So I must buy a second hand print to own this title.

Wich every new print Derann sales the chance they make more new films and titles rises up.

So what are the titles for the next new releases????? T3 or Jurassic Park 3???? Gimme, gimme, Gimme,

I haven't bought a new feature for a few years but I've bought quite a few in the past and I would again if it was a title I really wanted. Whenever any of us buys a used print, maybe for a bargain price, we have reason to be grateful to whoever bought it new - as otherwise there would be no new releases and such opportunities wouldn't exist!

Buying new Super 8 prints has never been an economical hobby, but prices have not kept pace with inflation. I recall that the last Walton price list I saw, from about 1981, had 200' reels going for something like £19.99, so it's surprising that the going rate for a new 200' is now as low as £26. I also recall 'Aliens' being about £379 when it was first released on Super 8 around 1988, so it's quite something that M&C (which is virtually the same length) is 'only' £349.99!

Very well said Adrian! We're all prone to think Super 8 is expensive but when you compare today's prices with those of 25 years ago it isn't. DVD is phenomenally cheap given the quality on offer but you just can't beat those big reels turning round.

If a feature comes along in the future and I'm not completely skint then I'll always be in the market to purchase. If nothing else, it helps to keep the hobby going.

I almost never buy brand new. Super 8 films are like new cars. The moment you've bought them they go down in value "just driven off the lot". That, and I just couldn't afford them as an american collector.

Only one have I bought brand new ... Star Wars.

Besides that, most of the films I buy these days are Optical sound features, and while I have had incredible luck in the quality I have recieved, these are never brand new. (unless they come on cores.)
